IT'S not enough that Facebook wants to know when you're stuck in the train with someone with a flatulance problem, it also wants to know your mood, what you eat, what you're listening to, reading or doing at any given moment.

The social network today began testing a series of status update composers that lets people select what they're doing and how they're feeling.

Users can select a number of options from a dropdown menu in the status box that includes "watching," "reading", "listening to" and "eating". You can also select your mood from the drop down as well.

Presumably this move was designed to increase the amount of recordable content it can feature in Facebook Search.

Up until now, Facebook has only been able to pull things into its search results from pages, groups or updates people have liked or have tagged themselves in. But say if you just typed: "I heart froyo", that would not appear in Facebook Graph Search's results.

These new expressions mean that Facebook will be able to capture a whole lot more data about you, what you're doing, and what you like. The more people choose a pre-determined mood, food or action, the better Facebook can target advertising at you.

The results and data gleaned from the new test will not be searchable and will not be channelled into Graph Search.

At this point the new way to express yourself - which has not been given a witty name and seems only to be referred to as the god awful "new visual activity sharing status composer" - will only be rolled out to a small number of users across the US.

It is unclear at this stage if or when it will ever come to Australia, or even whether it will even be rolled out officially.

Facebook told Tech Crunch that it would not be pumping all of the data gleaned from the visual activity composer into its ad engine either.

Yeah they also removed your ability to only receive messages from friends - in stead, they do something called 'filtering' where anyone can message you but it doesnt go into your main inbox if they're not a friend or friend of friend - however, the sender can PAY to make sure you receive it into your inbox.. Hmm.. Legalising harassment from those you wish to not be harassed by much?

And that the purpose of archiving data predominantly mails to share further for a good price, they say that it does not work, they became desperate, and only home: advertising, come from his wife, it's ok ... goes kinda guy but those little boy fishing video clip was desperate move .. :)
