Hi guys,

In the past few weeks, I became aware of some habits that were working against me ingame. These habits or tricks are very simple and can quickly improve your gameplay by just doing them different or even avoiding them.

I guess all of us have those habits and tricks which are easy to change or avoid them. Let's gather them here!

1. Jumping over

Situation: CoD4 has an built in animation when jumping over objects or walls. E.g. a terrace wall. Your character grabs the wall and lifts itself over it. Problem with this action is: your gun disappears. You won't be able to use your gun for probably 2 à 3 seconds.

Been shot many times when performing this action, just because you can't answer his fire.

CoD4 does not always perform the jump-animation. With the smaller walls, you can jump yourself over without performing the animation

Solution: If possible; avoid jumping over such walls or objects. Walk around it. When do performing the animation-jump: (1) make sure you are not in an easy-line-of-fire or (2) there are no directly enemies present at the location.

2. Reloading

Situation: When being in the process of reloading, you get shot. While reloading, you cannot answer his fire.

When your gun is empty; it makes sense reloading. But I believe that in more than 50% of the reloading-actions; it wasn't directly necessary. We are used to reloading after we shot someone. We want the security to have enough ammo in our gun to shot the next one. Being out of ammo and having having to reload is a huge risk.

Solution: Be aware of the question: when to reload, but really: WHERE to reload? I completely understand the eager to reload. Hence; I do it myself all the time. But being aware of the location of reloading can help you greatly preventing situations such as being shot when reloading.

If you shot someone, you'll have a free-space in most cases. Use the free-space to reload. Don't shoot a person and immediately walk further to search for the next one. Use the free space to reload and than walk further in search for the next one.

When speccing; I've seen this a lot: a person shoots someone in a corridor. He walks further into the corridor, reloading his gun and passes a corner. Behind the corner there is a enemy waiting for him. The enemy noticed him from the sound of shooting his teammate just before. The guy can't shoot the waiting enemy around the corner because of the reloading.

The guy had a 'free space' in the corridor when he shot his enemy. When he had used that free space, he could have passed the corner with a reloaded gun. His chances of shooting the 'waiting enemy' were greatly improved.

Any other suggestions, bad-habits or tricks? Post them!

I also have a habit of rushing towards the enemy base. I sprint a lot and want to find them real fast xD And that's the result of my horrible horrible KDR. :/

I use really high sensivity so an habbit i got is to look everywhere when i walk/sprint. I do 360/180 to look around me if anyone is there. I also reload my weapon everytime im done shooting somebody down.

I have the habit of sprinting when I know the enemy is near by. I'll go sprinting around a corner, see someone and be unable to shoot first.

Especially in the tunnels on Pipeline.

I love to bunny jump everytime I see an enemy. Therefore everyone makes jokes at me for it. But since I got this new pc some combination of keys and the occurence of hitting the trackbad accidently, cause me to hit the floor, which has saved my butt many times. So I have been trying to hit the floor more often.

I have a bad habbit of geting shot so I'm going to work on not getting shot. Soul also stole my mojo the other day so now I don't have that working in my favor either.

Actually I've used a M16 a lot and found that I would use the 3 shot burst without sweeping the muzzle creating a lot of misses on moving targets. Even with the 3 shot burst the slight sweeping action will widden the pattern enough to hit the moving target. So don't use a M16 like a single shot in those situations. Also Forsaken watched me the other day and suggested I go with an automatic as it is more forgiving when the first shot misses. I tend to agree and have switched to an M4 athough the power is not the same so I use overkill and carry an M16 as back up for longer sniper type shots.

Both of these are easily fixed with practice while still doing them. Jumping over things without an animation can be done, just run and press space bar, if you press space bar before you get to it you will still jump over it but no animation. As for the 50% reload animation being a waste, this might not be true for 50% but most of it is a waste and is easily fixed my learning how to cancel the animation by either A) pressing sprint at the right time or pressing your switch weapon button twice so as to act like your going to switch but dont, both of these have to be done at the right time or you wont actually reload at all so it will take practice.

+1 to what forsaken said. As well, one thing Ive noticed to take away the animation in some spots, is to go into ADS right when you jump, if you do it right, you'll retain ADS throughout the movement and be ready to shoot.

My bad habit= slowing peering around a corner when the hairs on my neck tell me someone is waiting for me to slowly peer around the corner. Nice and slow is exactly how he/she wants me moving when he/she is ready to shoot me. So I think bursting through or across an opening will give higher chances of survival. If I'm covering a doorway and an enemy sprints past it, I might kill him 50% of the time. I'm not expecting him/her, there is a delay in my reaction and my aim is rushed = miss.

Solution: Sprint across/through openings. Especially if the hairs on my neck are tingling.

Another habit= At the beginning of the game, both teams rush out to control the map and establish themselves as the aggressor. Once the more aggressive team is determined, the other team, almost by default, comfortably and complacently gives up trying to be aggressive. So they sit back and get slaughtered. This can vary depending on the individuals on the team. Sometimes a struggle to be the aggressor lasts the whole game and the score is close at the end. Which makes for a great game. But when the less aggressive team gives up and sits back... darn but does the game seem to drag on. I've been on that team many times. It's dreadful.

Solution: Fight aggression with aggression. No matter how many times you die. "Most deaths in a game" should be a badge of honor.

GREAT topic by the way.

I'm telling you ender you got to come play on abner if you like that style of play. There are times when I get frustrated and get out the bunny club(aka RPG, try bunny hopping over that will ya.) and I run with i up on my shoulder, its a bit slow to aim and fire so I get killed a lot by my own rocks, but i get the bunnies. :yahoo

Another habit is to forget to cook my nades before I throw them and I end up nadeing my self as I enter the room.

a good habit to have is not to go for revenge kills, I use to all the time and it only ever helped the other guys KDR, he killed you once there and I will even stick around at a protected kill spot waiting for the guy to return for revenge and then boom I get more kills

:lol2: EmtHipple you made me laugh with your "bunny club" statement.

I've noticed I do not camp near as much as I used too. Maybe I need to go back to camping some more so others can complain about it. When they do I know that I am doing exactly what I need to and that's killing them and they don't know how to combat it. It is actually easy if you stop and think about a camper's spot. So what I need to do is back off on the rushing all the time and look at the situation to see if it warrents a little camping for more kills and less deaths.

Anyway, Ender if you get a chance, come to Abmner's (1.6 ver) and play a while. It is hardcore, no marty, no last stand, no grenade launchers and is aggressive rushing most of the time. We do have some teams on domination that are happy with holding the "C" flag and will sit back in the spawn and die. I hate it when I am on that team because I am constantly trying to run out and die before I get anywhere. There is nothing better though when you do get out and behind the lines so that you can slaughter them before they know to turn around.

Okay Ender in reference to the slow creeping peering around a corner, yes that is a death sentence for most and what I hate is when someone does that right in a doorway before entering or leaving an area. You should hear me cussing because I died when someone decided to stop at a doorway and peak around the corner preventing me from rushing through delaying me there for a second or two. Anyway, if you think someone is there throw a grenade, a flash bang, or unload clip through the wall. It could just save your life before you enter the area.

Thanks for the ADS meaning Forsaken.
