It's the same way for Irish people- there's a name that is sometimes spelled Madbh, which is an old spelling of Maeve, pronounced May-ve. Then there's the likes of Caoimhe (ke-wee-va, which is basically the female version of Kevin, or Caoimhín - Ke-wee-veen - in Irish). I think those kind of names are beautiful and I would love to call my child a name like that.
