Just ordered all the pieces. I'll post pictures later, once its put together. My desktop is pushing 4 years old, so decided it was time for an upgrade. And this summer i'll probably put water cooling inside.

Old Desktop:

AMD 2.1 GHz triple core processor, 6GB DDR2 RAM, 1GB GDDR3 video card, 1TB harddrive

New desktop:

AMD 3.1GHz 8 core processor

8GB DDR3 RAM,

1GB videocard GDDR5 (gonna combine with my other 1GB video card if possible)

120GB SSD for OS and games. And the 1TB HD from my old computer for anything else

Computer case: http://www.tigerdire...6085&CatId=1510

RAM: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820231460

SSD: http://www.amazon.co...2/dp/B004W2JKZI

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813128514

Videocard: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814130625

Processor: http://www.amazon.co...t/dp/B005UBNKZG

Quick question, is it possible to SLI bridge these two videocards?

-----EDIT-----

"New" Video card: MSI Global R7970-2PMD3GD5

Memory type: GDDR5

Memory: 3 GB

Memory Interface: 384 bits

Core clock speed: 925 MHz

Memory clock speed: 5500 MHz

Supports crossfire, but I would have to upgrade my power supply and get another card. So probably won't do that for a while.

I would have gone for a 2gb videocard, some modern games just eat memory (battlefield 3 on 1920 * 1080 takes more then 1gb) => my opinion

but still pretty impressive rig...

I got the same case, well atm it's in pieces in my garage for a little paint job :P

pretty sure you can't put those 2 in SLI, but don't shoot me if I'm wrong. You can dedicated to old one just for physx. I've done that combined with my ati card.

According to http://www.geforce.com/Hardware/Technologies/sli/faq#c16 you can't.

"Can I mix and match graphics cards that have different GPUs?

No. For example, an XXXGT cannot be paired with a XXXGTX in an SLI configuration."

You will need a mobo with fuzion to combine graf cards even amd and nvidea cards can be combined on the msi big bang fuzion bord.

last time I read about those mobo's (year ago or so :P) they were bloody expensive and not really necessary cause sli and/or crossfire worked better...

Dunno if they are improved meanwhile

but yeah... I would be a solution (are there fuzion mobo's with am3+ socket?)

Well I won't b playing bf3 :P. mainly call of duty, wow, diablo 3 (once it comes out), and sc2

Is there a tutorial on dedicating one to physx? I've never used two video cards at the same time b4.

Nope, not really but I will explain it in 5s :P

- put your cards on the mobo (makes sense doesn't it :P)

-install Nvidia drivers

-open driver panel (win 7: right mouse button on desktop)

-go physx-configuration

-select old card as physx card and make sure your screen is connected to the new one

-done

ps. I'm not sure if dedicating your old gpu will insure a performance boost and I dunno if your old card has physx support to begin with , I'm using it cause ati/amd GPU's don't have physx

The game has to support physx for it to give you anything. Physx adds a higher level of detail in textures. I'd just use the 550.

Thanks for the explanation :P. I'll figure something out. :)

Pretty impressive I have to say. Mind telling the total cost for reference and what's it considered to be (mid or high end)?

Total was around 700 euros (around 1000 USD)?

I think its in between mid and high. But I could be wrong.

Thanks for the info. It makes a lot of sense :P

Right if I can't use both, then the 550 is much better. I was just hoping to use both :P

Wow 700 Euros. I had the feeling it would be twice as that, I guess things are heavily overpriced over here.

I ordered all the parts from the USA and sent to my brother. Since he lives there. I'll be visiting him next week, so I'll put it together and bring it back.

IF I bought all the parts here in the Netherlands, it would be A LOT more expensive. At least 20% more.
