LA_Kings_Fan Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I don't think some of you know the meaning of CULT CLASSIC MOVIE ... most of the above listed are "regular" or MAINSTREAM CLASSICS ... a CULT CLASSIC FILM is something people love to watch BUT SHOULDN"T because the Mainstream/critics/BoxOffice hated it for some reason when it first came out, but has since developed a "CULT" following ... I mean 'The DeerHunter' Won 5 Oscars for gods sakes, and The GodFather movies are about as MAINSTREAM / non-CULT classic as it gets, better examples actually are "Army of darkness", and stuff like ; - This Is Spinal Tap - The Rocky Horror Picture Show - The Warriors - Clerks - Slap Shot - The Big Lebowski - Showgirls - Heathers - The Decline of Western Civilization II: The Metal Years - anything Mel Brooks stuff like that Quote
=Death Hunter= Posted August 17, 2011 Author Posted August 17, 2011 you don't think the deer hunter is a cult classic? Or john waters??? The one where the the couple hires that guy to abduct teenage girls and impregnate them in a dungeon then sell the babies on a black market? Lol yeah I kinda have all the gangster movies in a different category. What about midnight cowboy? I've never seen heathers or the decline of western civilization. ok ok ok....the toxic avenger... Is that cult classic enough hahaha you gotta admit though even for the oscars the deerhunter was a great movie. The russian roulette scenes in vietnam were crazy warrrrriooooors....come out and plaaaaaaaaaay that'd be a good vsay kevin smith film-Vulgar disturbing...youd see this movie and you wouldn't believe it was a kevin smith movie. Poor clown gets gang raped hahaha Quote
=Death Hunter= Posted August 17, 2011 Author Posted August 17, 2011 a clockwork orange-and stanley kubrick films Quote
LA_Kings_Fan Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 you don't think the deer hunter is a cult classic? Again we need to define "CULT CLASSIC FILM" I guess ... because this film won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director and was named by the American Film Institute as the 53rd Greatest Movie of All Time on the 10th Anniversary Edition of the AFI's 100 Years…100 Movies list. Is it a great Movie ... YES, I never said it wasn't ... is it a CULT CLASSIC ? ... I don't think it fits the standard definition of one NO. It did well at the Box Office, the critics loved it, it won the above awards, people love it then/now/and most likely in the future ... kind of negates it's Cult Classic status IMO, that's all. Quote
=Death Hunter= Posted August 17, 2011 Author Posted August 17, 2011 Army of Darkness ffs! http://youtu.be/NeLUi_20Nrg Clatu... Verada... Shplmmmshhmmm!!! LOL! Is it a great Movie ... YES, I never said it wasn't ... is it a CULT CLASSIC ? ... I don't think it fits the standard definition of one NO. I guess I wasnt around when the movie came out so it seems kinda like one of those. Any others other than heathers and the decline of WC i may not have seen??? Quote
JohnWayne Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I know a theater that still plays this movie every saturday night as midnight movie and its been playing there for over 30 years. People dress up as the actors and sing, dance and chant through the whole movie. Quote
