Neon Posted July 8, 2011 Share Posted July 8, 2011 (edited) Hey, I was wondering if anybody knew the cause / solution to this. Playing on Jay#3 (Beginners) I usually get a good ping (around 50) yet lately, since perhaps last weekend or slightly before I have been suffering from horrible lag in game, even though the Ping has been fine (this is not frame rate lag btw). Looking at the lagometer I can see about half of the packets are arriving late, albiet not very, but still late, with the odd lag spike thrown in (quite often). This results in a general delay in my gameplay which is extremely annoying. It is as if I am playing about 250ms behind everybody else e.g. I seem to start taking damage from somebody infront of me before they start shooting or are even on the screen. This also results in messages being lost between me and the server (which is odd, as they are still marked as yellow, not red which is lost) where commands I enter in, for example jump or send a message to general chat occasionally don't do anything. Likewise, server info to me such as who just killed me when I had a tiny bit of lag is sometimes also lost (i.e. looking in console, no death is listed). There is also the ever present bullet delay (shoot, bullets come out a little late) and other general delays & lost packets e.g. revive someone, but no sound plays and they teleport to their feet. Then comes your ISP - Which is like 30% packet loss. First think I would suggest is to disable firewall 'everywhere' on modem/router and PC and run test again. Hmm I think a lost packet is lost, but of course the average goes down if you have no more packet loss after, because the number of the lost packets gets smaller in comparison. Sometimes a node cuts mtr traffic so you see a packet loss there but not in the following hop, that's not your case I think. Strange that you have that loss at the 1st hop, I tried with mine and i have 0% loss with a worst value of 0.9ms to my router, also make sure you don't download or do anything else while mtr is running. 11 ms is a bit too high unless you have wireless I think? Above 40+, I would say try to tweak your resolution and play around with rate and maxpackets. You will get little lag above 40 players. Nothing can be done there i ll try that, but as you see my answer in my other thread about opengl, my sytem normaly should handle that.
