Ok, here it is. My harddrive is starting to click and I keep getting a message saying that the hardrive is failing and I should do a backup. Here is my question. Can I mirrior my hardrive on to a new one so I wont have to reinstall or reformat windows . Will the operating system still work if I do that?

Farge, post another question in the hardward section of the computer forum. they know what they are talking about in that forum. You should get a suitable answer there. Good luck. Abs

The answer is yes. I had this issue and i cloned the failing hdd and it worked just fine :)

Yes it will function the exact same. I'd recommend backing important data then imaging the drive just in case.

Clone it using clonezilla. Or you might find an old version of Hiren tools 8.6 which has ghost on it, or if you have money you can buy Acronis or BESR. Clonezilla is pretty much idiotproof if you know how to read you will be able to do it. So download it burn it to cd , boot from cd, create a clone image to an external drive, put new drive in, boot from disk reimage the drive and you are done. No need for reinstall EVER.
