Howdy FAmily, been trying to play ET again lately but my Legacy seems to have some super weird issues all of a sudden the last 3-4 months rendering it unplayable on my end.

Haven’t had any issue up until that point, with that being said i’m not sure if it’s config or hardware related, but i’m able to play more demanding games without any issue.

Legacy is having a hard time keeping a steady FPS, I typically play around 166-250ish depending on the map. Barely getting 70-80 at the moment. Mouse also has some crazy input lag as well; which is odd because i’ve never seen this or experienced it. I did however, get a new gaming keyboard rather than using my onboard laptop keyboard that i’ve been using for the last couple years since my desktop shit the bed. Tried the legacy discord, no replies.

We’ve got some smart people here and i would appreciate the help so I can get back on the servers and headshot all of you ;)

cheers

bLade

You already tried using console commands?

Hey Blade,

few questions:

  1. ETL client version?
  2. Nvidia or ADM gpu? drivers updated?
  3. share the config (and launcher properties if any)

Hey Blade, can you hit me up on the =F|A= Discord or the ETLegacy Discord? I'm in the developer channel there, like, 24/7. I'll try and figure this out for you.

"To address the FPS drops and input lag after getting a new gaming keyboard, follow these steps:

1. Hardware & Peripheral Checks

  • USB Port Conflicts:

    • Plug the keyboard into a different USB port (preferably USB 3.0/3.1) to avoid bandwidth overload. Use ports on opposite sides of the laptop if possible.

    • Test the mouse/keyboard on another PC to rule out hardware defects.

  • Polling Rate & RGB:

    • Lower the mouse polling rate (e.g., 500Hz instead of 1000Hz) via its software.

    • Disable RGB lighting on the keyboard to reduce power/resource usage.

  • Power Delivery:

    • Ensure the laptop is plugged into a power source and set to High Performance mode (Windows Power Settings).

2. Software & Drivers

  • Update Drivers:

    • Install the latest drivers for the keyboard, mouse, GPU, and USB/chipset.

    • Check for firmware updates for the new keyboard.

  • Background Processes:

    • Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) to close unnecessary background apps, especially the keyboard/mouse software.

    • Disable startup programs (via Task Manager > Startup tab).

3. System & Game Settings

  • GPU Settings:

    • Ensure the game uses the dedicated GPU (Nvidia/AMD settings).

    • Update or roll back GPU drivers (use DDU for clean installs if needed).

  • In-Game Fixes:

    • Lower graphics settings (e.g., shadows, anti-aliasing).

    • Verify game files (Steam: Right-click game > Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity).

4. Troubleshoot Conflicts

  • Test with Old Keyboard:

    • Revert to the onboard laptop keyboard. If FPS/input lag improves, the new keyboard is likely causing conflicts.

  • USB Bandwidth/Throttling:

    • Disconnect other USB devices to free up bandwidth.

    • Check for thermal throttling using tools like HWMonitor or ThrottleStop.

5. Advanced Fixes

  • BIOS Update: Check the laptop manufacturer’s website for BIOS updates to improve USB compatibility.

  • Windows Updates: Install pending OS updates or roll back recent ones if the issue started after an update.

Summary

Start with USB port changes, driver updates, and power settings. If no improvement, test with the old keyboard to isolate the issue. Focus on reducing background processes and GPU/bandwidth bottlenecks. If all else fails, consider returning/replacing the keyboard if hardware incompatibility is confirmed."

I run your post trough IA, resulted in this, hope it helps

Hmm, interesting I wonder if this could be a conflict with legacy because since my new keyboard, X has been the issue. I got a new keyboard because my W key got stiff on my laptop keyboard, no other games cause an issue, CS 2.0 and Fortnite run fine.

I may need to update drivers, i will try that but IMO Legacy not running smooth compared to a way more demanding game does seem right.

Ill drop my config - which ive never had issues with but - staff will hide my config which im ok with due to execs etc - let me know and i can edit them to source right. this is my jaymod config and i cannot f*cking understand what it runs like f*cking sh*t. I miss FA and my friends, vanilla runs semi decent - but not legacy smooth.

dont take advantage of my config cause ill come back better like i always do, but feel free to run it, tweak it (give me credit) and frag better :)

Blade what operating system let’s start there also please really feel free to reach out to me I’m PVDoor on FA discord I will happily help fix this issue for you.

Some issues I have seen that may be related to your situation

motherboards with onboard graphics chips are still enabled with an additional graphics card will sometimes use onboard graphics instead of external card

etl in rare cases will try to run in a single core causing hangs

Could it BE that Mouse or Keyboard running at 8k polingrate ? I readed about 8 k polingrate can cause fos Drops and Mouse lag , maybee your new Keyboard using also 8 k

If no fix is found here, I will reach out on discord.

AFAIK my mobo is still the same as it has been, I've not touched it or been in bios.
Onboard gpu, I've toggled off via settings and chose my 1050 as my main a few years back. Could it be somehow its trying to run off the intel or both? I've never had any issue until my new keyboard and moving... how can I check if its running on a single core?

It might be a nvidia configuration if I had to guess.

Open NVIDIA Control Panel (right-click desktop > NVIDIA Control Panel).

  • Go to Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > Add ET: Legacy (etl.exe).
  • Apply these settings for ET: Legacy:
    • CUDA - GPUs: All
    • Low Latency Mode: Off (or On for competitive play, but test for FPS impact)
    • Power Management Mode: Prefer Maximum Performance
    • Texture Filtering - Quality: High Performance
    • Vertical Sync: Off
    • Threaded Optimization: On
    • Max Frame Rate: Off (or set to your monitor’s refresh rate, e.g., 60 FPS for 60Hz).

I don't remember exactly what do you need to change. Also remember to use r_primitives 2 (2.60b only)

Hi Blade; if you have had no problems since you got this laptop until now, check if what you are experiencing now is not due to problems with the CPU/GPU overheating in certain situations.
Maybe the fan is not spinning enough, some thermal pad or thermal paste needs replacing, the air intake opening could be semi-obstructed by something?
Also, the latest versions of Nvidia drivers in some cases create problems instead of improvements; in this case my advice is to use:
Nvidia Studio Drivers instead of GamesReady
NvidiacleanInstall for debloating (on YT there are videos on how to do it and why)
DDU to clean the system and reinstall the drivers with debloating
As an example I link you to the video in Italian

I’d agree, based on the way the topic reads. It has a high likelihood of being thermal throttling. I’d do a basic disassembly and clean out any dust, as well as repaste with some good old Arctic Silver.
