@LarrY

I also like Bunnahabhain 12, they have some great (affordable) aged scotches. I got lucky on my Yama and Haku 12 purchases (140$ USD). I've also been to the distillery and tried every age of those whiskys. I highly recommend it if you have the chance to go to Japan.

The MM barrel selects are always a win. They used to be 55$ and were my go to for parties. Great flavor and you can usually find them. I haven't had the EC Rye or the Wilderness trail though. I'll look out for it.

Your comments on Nikka being too harsh are totally reasonable. I know from the yamazaki distillery that they intend for you to water down their whisky. I assume it is similar for Nikka. Japanese whisky with cold pure water is a common order at bars in Japan.

So I started writing down a list of all the whiskeys I tasted, and realised it would be a very long list!
Instead I will share a whiskey I will always remember.

During the  covid years, I spent a few weeks at the cabin in the mountains during the winter.
One day, while exploring the cabin's root cellar, something caught my eye. A faint glint of greentinted glass in the darkest corner of the cellar.

Lo and behold!

A bottle of  Glenfiddich from the late 1900s!
More precise, 1970s.

Smooth like butter!
