Humans create AI and AI learns from humans' knowledge. So it is quite possible that AIs have their own errors in them.

You won't be able to fully eliminate the human factor.

I have wondered how 'they' validate results from AIs.

Depends on the type of AI "they" need to validate. For example, if you want an AI to recognize animals on pictures, in that case a human usually recognizes it beforehand. But let's say humans couldn't recognize the ocelot as an ocelot and labeled it as a domestic cat. Therefore the AI will learn that the ocelot is also a domestic cat.

 

The errors depend on the way (algorithm, data etc.) they trained it:

That made me realize how much photo resolutions have improved for mobile phone cameras over the years, not to speak of stand-alone digital cameras!
