Hey all,

I've recently come back to playing ET after several years and I'm enjoying it even if I do suck. Several things that come to mind first while playing on your beginners server.

The first point would probably be, how come it's a beginners server when everyone on it is so dam good? Not really fair in my opinion, but hey ho :)

I know that the other players are much better and more experienced with the game but how the hell can nearly everyone kill me in 1 shot. I mean i've shot people maybe 12 times (hearing the ping sound) and they still don't die, but everytime I run around a corner, BANG! dead. in one shot. How the hell can this happen? Even with a sniper it takes 2 shots to kill most of the time so how the hell does 1 shot kill me, and more importantly how the hell can EVERYONE be that good, lol. It's just frustrating really I want to play better but no matter what I try and however I go about it I can't seem to get the aim right. Any ideas or pointers?

The recoil, or hit recoil i should say, how is it that I start firing at someone from distance, I hit them first before they even know i'm there, then they turn and fire and when they hit me i can't aim because my gun is bouncing up in the air. How the hell does this effect me but not the other person?

I have tried to sort my config out, and i'm waiting for a custom one to be made for me here, I can play and most of the time i'm 1:1 ratio, which i know isn't that bad, but I would like to be able to get a couple of killing spree's etc under my belt hehe, anyway I guess I'll keep practising :) Thanks in advance for any pointers or tips you may have, and see ya out there :)

I think it's called Beginners because of the "softer" settings running on the server. One of these is a higher rate of fire than usual, which helps explain why you seem to die so quickly. Also, the farther away you are from someone, the less damage your headshots will do to them. Recoil can be lowered slightly with tweaks, but it can't be removed completely. It just takes getting used to. Anyway, practicing is what will most help you get better. With Jaymod/No Quarter especially, those who play on it every day and are used to the huge hitboxes, double-jump, bla bla bla appear to be very skilled (but usually aren't :D) and sometimes impossible to kill.

Well if you played ET before I guess then it's matter of hours before you get the grip of it again. I'd say choice of server also matters. You might be better of starting on Jay1 or Jay2 as there is no wolfrof (fast firing, it might give you a feeling it was only one shot) there so fights last longer. Jay1 would be the best since there is no adren there (if you are into Jaymod anyway, ETPub is also nice place to start and has fewer slots, high number of slots can be a bit chaotic at times.). Hardcore is same as ETPub but with FF on and is more objective oriented. At last but not the least there are 2 NQ servers for some heavy weapons fun.

Also make sure you get stable FPS and stable internet connection. Playing in bad conditions won't get you far fun wise or score wise. Also try using tiny cyan or magenta dot as a crosshair so your aiming is as precise as it can get. Sensitivity also plays a major part of it.

EDIT: ohur beat me to it about fast firing

WOW guys thanks, that helps alot. Especially the "Fast Firing" bit that would explain a hell of a lot. I will try out the JayMod servers and see how I go, Thank you again and hopefully see you out there :D

Keep your mouse aimed at headlevel and try to find a sensativity that you can keep aimed at one point (say a corner) while you strafe back and forth. Save your stamina for when you get in a fight don't waste it leaving spawn just so you get to the fight quickly with no stamina left. Move as you shoot don't stay stationary, try to be unpredictable.

Hi!

I have a perfect solution for you: http://fearless-assassins.com/tutorials/article/96-et-tutorial-pack/

Its about 1gb, but imo really worth of watching if you really want to improve. There is also text file inside 10. Extras that would fit for you, since you have played before, but you want to get your skills back. It is called "For Players Who Have Just Started To Play Or Who Want To Get Better" :pp
