Silent crash

Having this issue for a while now already but wasnt really bothered to fix it as i dont play as much as i used to, it's still annoying when u play couple of maps and having to do reconnect, so onto the problem, the game crashes each time the new map comes on, basically when the loading menu pops up, it crashes. I have tried to delete silent map and dl a new one, even tried to reinstall et, all without any success, so i would guess a problem relays somewhere among the GPU drivers as i think this problem started soon after i updated drivers for my nvidia 970.

This are crash logs, not sure if Dare is currrently around so he could have a look or if someone else had the same issue before.

set cg_gun_frame to default open console and look

 

Exception: Access violation (0xc0000005)

 

Just means your not allowed to use a certain cvar and the only one I can think that does it is that one.

Shouldn't the server just force the cvar if it isn't allowed?

It's set on 0 as per default since always.

Is this windows 7 can you give more information about what you working with.

 

Does it shut down and show the api for executable saying it crashed can you copy that and send it.

 

Would require more technical information to determine if it's user group causing this or display driver from the system it self.

 

Kind of sure it's related to a cvar but can you share your profile cfg.

 

Other then that try com_hunkmegs 112 and com_soundmegs 48 this is just double what default is.

 

If you need assistance to look at this being it requires a bunch of file surfing I can help with teamviewer if you prefer. Just send me a pm I can do it tonight got a few hours sleep today :)

I thought the same thing but they don't make computers like they use to

 

This question was asked before on here and they resolved it by reinstalling the game see here https://fearless-assassins.com/topic/87037-et-closing-without-a-error/

 

The error is pointing at the .dll it self in general the mod folder would have the same .dll's as etmain if you copy from etmain to the mod folder all the .dll's that may fix it but there is no actual way to verify this will fix it this is just a general idea of the files in question.

 

The other thing that would cause it to crash and close with out warning is the API is closing after it opens that is related to the display driver and it does it after first may. What does it say in console when you first connect does it say it requires a video restart.

If possible (and if you don't play ETPro a lot or at all) I would install ET Legacy just cause it plays nicer with newer operating systems. Have had way less problems with it.

Running Win 10 Pro version, 64bit, didnt have problems with it and the weird thing is that it only crashes on Silent mod, i have played ETpro without any problem at all. Doesnt show anything at all, the game completely shuts down and closes up, not even the API shows up as normally upon crashes.

 

Oh access violation... usually that's a memory related error, what ET client are you using?

Spamming some random ideas: run in win 7\8.1 compatibility mod? and try to run it "as administrator"- RMB click on et.exe.

Also remember that config. etc profile stuff is left behind when reinstalling. So save your configs, silent.dat and etkey for XP and levels, and try to manually delete ET folder. Though reinstallation doesn´t help most of the times.

Doesn't make any difference in the compatiblity mod, problem is that it was working perfectly before with same installation and everything, never crashed. Yeh i did manually delete the folder obviously and got rid of everything, even tried with new silent.dat file in case that would be the problem.

I still think that it might be something related to my driver updates from GPU, as i cant recon before that i had any crash since i didnt update GPU drivers for a while and soon after i have done it, crashes started. It's weird as well that it only affects silent mod, but etpro works completely fine, which again is pretty odd on its own.

Is this nVidia drivers had this happen last week you may need to uninstall the display driver and reinstall it manually that is what i had to do but it wasn't related to ET some of my desktop apps wouldn't work cause of it.

 

The game runs on netframework and directX the display drive is the API that connects the two . If this is nvidia disable vertical sync in global settings.

 

Also changing the screen resolution to window mode helped me with ETL not loading it doesn't work in fullscreen but I can use window mode and taskbar is on autohide still see full screen. I know this isn't ETL and unrelated but saying there is a bug in the system. Im also on windows 10 64 bit  

 

I had to install ET manually on the desktop and move it to program files cause of user group permissions on 64bit are high security for program files even if you installed it there with admins privileges and play with admins privileges it had problems. Radiant wont even run in program files properly.

 

First try install new ET to desktop then put your etmain and mod folders in that file and move it where you want.

if that doesn't work

Try reinstall the display driver or revert back to a older version 

 

All this trouble cause of a 32bit binary with no permission to read a .dll
