The rumors were right. As part of its Call of Duty Infinite Warfare announcement today, Activision also confirmed that it's remastering 2007's fan-favorite Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

The original game was made by Infinity Ward (which is developing Infinite Warfare), but development on the remaster for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC is behind done by Activision subsidiary Raven Software. Infinity Ward is of course involved with the production, as it is executively producing the game.

It's being called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. According to a press release, it will feature "vibrant current generation visuals, with fully improved texture resolution and detail, high-dynamic range lighting, lit and shadowing VFX particles, revamped animation and audio, stunning sound, and much more."

The full campaign from the 2007 game is included, and there is also multiplayer. However, the online multiplayer mode is limited to ten "fan-favorite" maps. The full list was not announced, but the confirmed maps so far are "Crash," "Backlot," and "Crossfire."

"The original Modern Warfare raised the bar on video games and forever will be remembered as one of the best," Raven studio head Brian Raffel said in a statement. "It's an honor to be developing the remaster and we are committed to faithfully remastering this classic for Call of Duty fans."

Modern Warfare's remastered version is included with the following Infinite Warfare editions:

Legacy Edition and Digital Legacy Edition ($80) -Includes both Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered
Digital Deluxe Edition ($100) - Includes Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered and Season Pass
Legacy Pro Edition ($120) - Includes Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, Season Pass, collectible Steelbook, official game soundtrack, and additional digital items
Activision did not say if it plans to sell Modern Warfare Remastered by itself. We'll report back with new details as they become available.

How bad are they going to f*** up multiplayer? I mean 10 of the best maps? Somehow I think they're going to implement that dumb ass matchmaking system, rather than the actual ability to have private servers. If they give up private servers, maybe it could breathe life into COD4. Maybe give us a chance to have a server on a new game. Still, I won't hold my breath. It is activision after all.

They didn't really change anything other than the looks of maps and some physical features. I heard the price to get cod4 remasterd and infinite warfare will be $110..... I think that they have taken this futuristic stuff way to far considering it is supposed to be a war simulator, not a million years in the future war simulator. I am not really excited for this considering there will probably not be trickshoting, or atleast not any good trickshoting. Or there might not be that much sniping/ quickscoping. I am not to happy thinking of that because I trickshot and quickscope and go for clips and that sort on ps4 and xbox 360. The only reason I would get the $110 bundle is for the remasterd cod4. Not to sure what to expect, I will just have to wait and see. Hopefully there wont be any of that exo or gliding crap in this game :/

Lol 10 maps? If the game meant so much to them that they decided to create a remastered edition, you think they would give enough of a shit to remaster all the maps. There are no "favorite maps" everyone has there own preference.

Lemme guess, they are going to end up doing all of them, and sell the extra ones off as DLC, in typical Activision fashion.

As much as I love this game, and am super excited to see a remastered addition, I feel like Activision is no longer is on par with the game they once created, and has no right f***ing it up.

And if it is good, then lets hope that they are smart enough to allow private servers. This game shouldn't be about making money, it should be about the fans, and giving them what they want.

There hasn't been a good COD since COD4 imo. They obviously know it too. Using this to get sales on the game.

I agree that there has not been a good cod since cod 4 other than black ops 2.

Im not to sure if im gonna get it. If there are good reviews and it is possibly a good game, ill save up for it. or ill just wait to save up when remasterd games like mw2 and cod4 come out individually for the ps4. If neither are good ill save up for gta 6 when it comes out, or just save my money for a long time
