Sponkala Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 So I've been getting really into photography lately. I would love to get some advice on what equipment to get and what camera and lense would be the best choice for a starter like me. Also do you guys think it would be useful to take some classes to get the hang of things or could I study it all by myself? And here's some pics i've taken with my phone they're the reason i've been getting excited (of course they're really amateurish but you gotta start somewhere) Quote
audrey Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Start with some starter DSLR, any of the Canons would work, they're awesome for begginer amateurs. And easy to handle, as I recall. Canon 450d or 350d, and they're not so pricey. I want to start again with 450D too 1 Quote
Helsen Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 You could also start with a Nikon. A d3100 is cheap now, because there are newer types. It is not too big, handy to travel with and if you in the end think all the photography is too much you did not spent a fortune yet.... 1 Quote

Mirror less is the way to go even though I have Nikon D7200. 2 Quote

The newer version of D3100, the Nikon D3200 seems like the best option for me from what i've been researching. It's relatively cheap, at 370 euros in Finland atleast. And seems that its price to quality is superb from what i've read. http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/dslr/d3200/ So what do you guys think? Quote

No & No. Sony A6000. Die hard Nikon fan suggest that and D7200 is my last camera in DSLR range. After that mirror less all the way. http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Mirrorless-Digital-Camera-16-50mm/dp/B00I8BICB2/ref=sr_1_1?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1435338060&sr=1-1&keywords=sony+a6000 Buddy you are new. Don't buy old junk. I bought D7200 because I had plenty of lens. Get in the new area of photography if you are buying new stuff. Mirror-less is the future of Photography. 1 Quote

Administrators daredevil Posted June 28, 2015 Administrators Posted June 28, 2015 What are the main advantages of a mirrorless camera over an DSLR? And It is pretty expensive though compared to the D3200. Get the open box or refurb with warranty. DSLR's are getting old. I would do quick comparison for you. 1. Much lighter weight. Trust me, it's huge factor. 2. 11 FPS vs 5 FPS for D3300 Sports and action photography is much easier. 5 is pew pew. Even 7 is feel like pew pew for my Nikon D7200. 3. Build in wifi + NFC. Not sure if you will use it or not but it's handy. 4. Hybrid AF with 179-point focal plane phase-detection and 25 contrast detect points. I feel it's useful during action photography. 5. Electronic viewfinder with 100% coverage. This is really helpful. You can see in real time your pic composition. Working with LCD is much more comfortable rather then small view finders. 6. You are getting new camera + lens. Do you want lens which would be old in 10 years? No. Pic mirror-less and it's lens. Sony is gaining huge market and even Nikon uses Sony for it's censor in D5500 and D7200. 7. AF would be faster then D3300. In 10 years all this DSLR's bulky ones would be called old age cameras. Mirrorless it the new era. Light weight, faster shutter speed, high ISO, 4k Videos, ELV, etc etc. More reviews for you: Quote
audrey Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Spon if you keep asking Dare questions you'll never decide. Just go with Canon or Nikon you can afford and sure, it's important that's new and not 2nd hand. Learn basics and handling and you can sell it after a year or so and buy a better one. Orrr listen to D talking smartass about it and get confused. :3 1 Quote
SadNesS Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 (edited) For me as a professional photographer, i would recommend a Starter-DSLR. Of course there are a lot of choices. Therefore there are several things to consider. #1 How much money you want to spend. #2 What you want to photograph. #3 How many times you are photographing/how many photos you doing. #4 Would you edit the photos (Photoshop, Gimp, Fotor,...) #5 ..... #6 ... As you can see there are many things to consider in order not to make a bad buy. And do not forget, the lens is the most important. My experiences range from Nikon to Canon, Sony to Minolta. And i prefer Nikon. I want to tell you also why: Nikon have the best lenses and fitted mirror. However, the workmanship is very poor. Personally bothers me not because i prefer the best quality. Canon has for the best processing, in my opinion - lenses and mirrors poor. Sony cameras are inoperable for me. They are very particular and hard to use (in my opinion). If you can handle it, they are not bad. And Minolta are not for DSLR . They are the best at analog photography. Summary: Nikon: very good quality, bad in the operations and settings (low price) very good quality, better at operations and settings (high price) Canon: bad quality, very good in operations and settings (low price) good Quality, good in operations and settings (high price) Sony: complicated to handle, good Quality All in all, it depends on your behavior but i would suggest you: Canon EOS 100D - http://www.canon.co.uk/for_home/product_finder/cameras/digital_slr/eos_100d/ Nikon D3300 - http://en.nikon.ca/Nikon-Products/Product/dslr-cameras/D3300.html Sony Alpha 58 - http://store.sony.com/-alpha-58-dslr-and-18-55mm-lens-zid27-SLTA58K/cat-27-catid-All-Alpha-DSLR-Cameras If you have any question, feel free to ask! If he wants to save money now but loose in long run then D3300 off course. I would get refurb D3300 for 350$ max with lens and then use it. No point in buying it new. There is no way you can beat the LCD live view and 11 FPS vs 5 FPS in action photography. Why you guys keep suggesting him old tech while he is buying new ones 3 Quote

Helsen Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 On my FB one of the photographers had an article on a camera with that kind of zoom. Did not try to find it (was a week ago or something) because I thought the hardcore photo guys here would already know It is called Nikon Coolpix p900. 83 times zoom, range 24-2000 mm http://petapixel.com/2015/03/02/nikons-new-coolpix-p900-has-a-ridiculous-83x-zoom-range-of-24-2000mm/ Quote

If the camera can't take sharp and nice pics, I will pass on it 1 Quote
