Quake Live now available for Steam

I am downloading it as I am posting this , I wonder if they made any changes from the browser version.


I'll post my thoughts in a moment.

Ok here we go


* It's good old quake with some minor tweaks.

* New "Loadout" system, you can start with every weapon right from the start. (If you choose rocket , you will start with 5 rockets)

* You can see by default how long items take to respawn and where power ups such as quad damage are located on your HUD. (Simplified mechanics for newbie players)

* Freeze tag is BACK   

* Absolutely NO LAG

* The UI need some heavy work to do because it's buggy as hell, I took 20 minutes just to join a match due to server browser giving me this 503 error every time i loaded up a new page. Match making is kinda dumb because it always makes you join to full servers and you are forced to stay in spec.

* Name tags are only alphanumeric (Impossible to name you with =F|A=)

* There is "Domination" mode which is like unreal tournament or Team fortress, where you have to capture a command post and defend your own by camping in a specific spot for a determined amount of time. 


and that's pretty much it,  the steam release boosted the number of players. Most of the servers where full and maybe this could revive good old quake for new audiences to try it on.

I gave it a try today and it worked great for me. I had no issues with the server browser like you. The lag most people talked about it the past is gone the game ran smooth as glass.

One thing i have to say is that if you are new to the Quake III mechanics and you don't know any strats, don't join any clan arena game types.

You are most likely to get pwn by some extremely talented players (I can barely get 2 frags) and some jerks are kicking people that come from steam or that are newbies.

i play in clan arenas. i like the challenge. those guys are friggin awesome lol. a few times i will lead up until like the 3rd round and then start falling to 4th or 5th lol. this game is sweeeeet. i wanna find some TJ servers tho......i wonder if they exist

Just filter your servers with the "run" gametype.

I was a heavy Quake Live player.....Until it went to steam XD
