Microsoft is reportedly close to striking a deal to acquire Mojang, the developer behind Minecraft, according to The Wall Street Journal.

According to “a person with knowledge of the matter,” the deal is worth around $2 billion and could be signed by as early as this week. Minecraft has sold over 50 million copies across PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, iOS, and Android.

Bloomberg added in a separate report (via Eurogamer) that the talks were instigated by Mojang co-founder Markus Persson following the creation of a good working relationship with Microsoft, and after striking up a close relationship with new Head of Xbox Phil Spencer. Persson will reportedly leave Mojang after the deal is complete.

So far both companies have refused to comment.

The only thing bad that could come out of this, is heavily enforcing the current EULA. Since Microsoft is such a large and powerful company... I'm sure they could easily do that. But then again.. they could just change the EULA since they're new owners.. Hmm, this is interesting.
