r_primitives 2 is a setting you need if you have AMD video cards (or you will get only a few frames per second)

you should try to understand if your lag is caused by the network, or if it's caused by other things (software running in background, etc)

try cg_drawfps 1 and cg_lagometer 1

if your frames per second value is always stable (and you have spikes in your lagometer) then it's probably a network issue. If you have frame rate drops but your lagometer is ok it's another case

from your mtr log I see your ping is fairly stable, but you must run it for much longer... only 9 packets sent? you should let it run for a while otherwise it's hard to tell

My fps goes from anywhere between 40 to 90.

On the blue line in the lagometer, I get this yellow spikes appearing every now and again, but it can be blue for a while too. The green line has spikes too.

Same problem with FPS, but my green and blue lines seem more constant (occasional spikes but considerably less than previously).

=================

I have an AMD graphics card.

(I play Left for Dead 2 and my ping is always stable).

I've also tried that pb cleaner thing and still getting the problem. I did most of the things in this thread:

Did you tried to use the config file I provide in the thread you mention. To load it do in the console :\exec Annibal

Without port forwarding:
8.9.4.227 -    2 |  244 |  241 |  102 |  115 |  204 |  117 |

With port forwarding:
8.9.4.227 -    0 | 1045 | 1045 |  101 |  109 |  130 |  104 |

Few packets difference between those two. But it appears you get no packet loss at all with forwarding, so do a test in turning off fully your firewall and your AntiVirus (Heuristic engine sometimes can make some problems). Most of firewalls and AV now own a game mode, turn it on if possibly the case of yours.

If you use a personal firewall and\or AV else than those of Windows (Windows Firewall & Windows Defender), don't forget to desactivate all those last ones in your Windows services. In these same services, set Windows Update on manual.

ping going from 109 to 130 is not what I would call *very* stable... unluckily in windows version of mtr there is no stddev column, but seeing that the average is 109 and best 101, I guess those 130 values are not so common

Posted

Sometimes I have the same thing in starting pinging with WinMTR.. The first value(s) can sometimes be higher and then come back at something more usual.. And if you check his "Avrg", there's not a big difference (an average of 10ms) with his "Best" and "Last" on these 2 graph.. So, could be the same issue.

Sorry for the delayed reply, wanted to find a quiet time to do this, but how do I load the Annibal file? I had it on desktop and tried loading it in the console but it wouldn't work. I'll post a new log shortly with firewall stuff turned off, just downloading updates atm.

Your lag seems to start quite early in the chain, it's not that bad though...

Can you post a picture of your lagometer?

You can also try and see if you lag everywhere, or only in one server (or when there are many players) try to join another server, for example FA Hardcore which usually is not so packed with players like jaymod

32 fps inside a building? quite low, do you have an optimized graphics configuration for the game?

in the second screen you have a bit of packet loss (red lines) but in my opinion if your pc is too slow, then a bit of lag is inevitable

I would like to inform people that I fixed the problem. It was an issue with the Catalyst drivers. I downloaded Catalyst Driver 13.4. I then extracted it to an arbitrary folder.

I then went inside the folder, went into packages > drivers > display > W86A_INF > B155215  and located a file called atioglxx.dll_

I extracted this file and then got a file called atioglxx.dll. I then placed this in the Enemy territory program files (just inside the program folder where the shortcut is, nowhere else) and everything works :)

Issue fix was found here:

http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=454&threadid=171452&enterthread=y

With this fix, you can continue to use the latest drivers for your other games but keep the .dll from the 13.4 drivers for ET.

Also like to add I fixed my spikes, I changed ISP and have a more reliable connection. So YEEAAHH :P
