recovery disk of Dell notebook and warranty expired

Ok, my support warranty with Dell had expired 2 years ago and few days ago, I was thinkering withmy laptop including formatting its entire hard drive After doing so, I realized that I do not have my laptop's Dell recovery/rescue disks. :( or backup disk. That sucks I know.

Now, I (think) could only have Dell recovery disk if I renew my laptop's warranty period and have the recovery disk delivered somewhere. I am not sure if Dell offers a downloadable copy or even if Dell would deliver outside US.  Renewal would costs around $260 USD

Anyone got Dell laptop and has same experience with renewal of warranty with Dell? Was it worth it? :( Or I should go for "other" Wind0ws option? :s

when did you buy the laptop, and how much do you use it ?

The reason I ask, is that you could renew the warranty and then 6 months later something goes wrong, you try and claim it through the warranty and they turn around and say that the problem is just wear and tear, and isn't covered. Then you ended up renewing the warranty for $260 and it doesn't cover what you need it to.

Personally, I would just buy a new operating system and put that on it. It would be a lot cheaper.

Windows 7 Home Premium (32 bit) is only $96.98, and the 64 bit version is $89.99.

Windows 8.1  (32 bit) is only $99.97 and the 64 bit version is $89.98.

Bought it last 2011, and it's in good condition except for battery led warning.

The problem on using "other" win7 image that I currently have is that, it is not detecting most small parts of the lappy namely LAN, WiFi/WiMax, TV, USBs, webcam, those other media ports etc. I even used HP's version of Win7 and the same results. I tried both 32bit and 64bit of "other" win7 images that I have (4 versions) and still the same.

So I assume, it's better to buy new one if all case doesn't work.

i have a 32-bit and 64-bit windows vista Dell recovery disk. if i can make a perfect image of you could use it somehow  :o

Good thing to know. However I personally prefer Dell's Win7 if there is and if it's allowed. :)

Will try a different Win7 and see how it goes.

Once you have reinstalled windows, you will need to download drivers for each part such as the LAN/Wifi, TV, Webcam, USB (only USB3.0, regular USB should work). You can find these on the makers website, go to the makers website, find your laptop (make sure the model number matches) then download the files you need (you should be able to recognize the ones you need).

Once you have done that it should be good to go, if you hit any issues while doing that let me know and we can work through them.
