War Thunder Mouse Users

We all have our own little way of doing things. Sometimes it is the only way we know how to do them.

War Thunder provides in game tutorials which are highly beneficial and rewarding at the same time. However from my own experience and playing with others I have seen numerous players oblivious to crucial but simple controls that have such an impact on game play that it could determine one's affection for the game.

Here are some essential controls and ways you can  make use out of them in more than one way.

Lets begin with the basics for mouse users:

War Thunder has the straight forward left hand W.A.D.S and Right Hand Mouse movement that we are familiar with in games like c.o.d and e.t. Though instead of forward and backwards movement, W and S represent an increase and decrease in thrust.

I personally NEVER use S to decrease thrust, as the mouse scroll button also acts as an increase and decrease in thrust.

I scroll back to slow down and forwards to speed up. I do use the W to increase thrust as well. Using W or Forward Scroll to increase thrust will become an instinctive choice between the both.

A & D Buttons: Essentially The usual Left and Right controls being A and D will Roll your Aircraft Left and Right While maintaining the same trajectory. A great way to out manouvere your opponent.

The Mouse: Push forward = Increase Altitude

                    Pull Back = Decrease Altitude

Move Left & Right to Turn Left and Right.

The C Button: Incredibly numerous players miss this but it allows you to look around you whilst maintaining the same trajectory. This allows you to observe your surroundings and of course locate your Enemy and Team Mates.

Right Mouse Click: Functions as a Zoom. A great tool to find those hit boxes and weak points.

An example of using this against a ground unit is firstly by locating and Identifying your target from distance ( see mouse push scroll button ) Getting in there at high speed and when within around 1km from target a quick scroll back on mouse wheel to slow down and right click to zoom will allow you to line up your target, execute the kill and exit the zone quickely.

An example of zooming in on an Aircraft could be locating a target then maintaining a controlled speed to line up the enemy and then Right Mouse Click to zoom and aim. If you find yourself behind a bomber you could then aim for the engines or fire a number of rockets with more accuracy.

Push Scroll/Mouse Button 3: This allows you to identify targets. If you hold it down you can run your pointer over all enemy targets ground and air and determine what they are and if you have the ability to attack it/them.

When in range of a target, ground or air- a hitbox in the form of a circle appears.  You want to aim in front of that not in it. It's referred to as Leading. Just like clay shooting etc you need to allow for movement and speed to line up those targets. Also there is an indicator that becomes Red when you are in range. Use these guides to help you learn when it is time to fire your weapon/s.

I will edit and add more info as we go along. Current Squad members feel free to add your own tips and fundamental controls yet to be mentioned here.

what i would like to add firstly is http://fearless-assassins.com/tutorials/article/357-war-thunder-beginners-tutorial/

if you are flying planes with big caliber cannons, such as the me410 with the 50mm, donot be afraid to fire at bombers that fly in a straight line from about 1 to 2 km away, the rounds will not just dissapear and can often kill targets from far away.

Thank you owned for mentioning that. Also you will find in the "Joining our squad" topic the new and improved version Kat0n worked on, which includes your tutorial.

I read this and thought "50mm, that's as big as cannons on the early tanks in ww2".  It seems to be true:  "given a contract in 1943 to adapt the 50 mm KwK 39 tank gun, from the Panzer III tank, for aerial use in the twin-engined Me 410 Hornissebomber destroyer". ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BK-5_cannon ).  The panzer3 was a medium tank of the late 1930's to early ww2.
