Spyderwebber Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Hey all - So I lost my CD and I decided to just repurchase it from Steam. Well I found that I can't use my retail CD key with that download, nor can I have 2 installs (1.6 and 1.7 so I can play Abnerdog and Beginners). I also don't like how Steam controls everything (that may be my inexperience). Does anyone know, if I get it from Amazon Digital Downloads, am I locked into the same control as Steam? I don't want to spend another $20 if it won't let me do what I want to do. Or if anyone has any insight to help me, I'd love the help. Thanks! Spyder Quote
GI-JOE Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 (edited) I have cod4 from steam and have a dual install of 1.6 and 1.7...what is the issue you're running into there? I have instructions for how to do the dual install here, this is the method I used for myself with my version I got through steam, though it should work for any version of the game except for Mac users (suck it nerds!) cobvious Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 You can run the game without steam ( i do it all the time) just run it in xfire, or start iw3mp.exe yourself. What have you tried with your cd key? i know steam changed mine once so i had to change it back... Quote
Spyderwebber Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 Well, I must admit I have avoided Steam (I know, I know - get with the 21st century). I have taken both of your posted and its working out for me, so thank you for the help! Quote
Dddrgn Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Great to see things working for you! Personally, I would have simply downloaded a disc image of the game, since I DO legally own it, (thus it's legal to have a backup) and installed that, then used my key. Quote
Spyderwebber Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 Yeah, well, I thought about that, but wasn't sure where to get a legit image. I pretty much avoid torrents, and it wasn't too expensive. 1 Quote
