S3ti Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 (edited) Need some help with the WinMTR reports, not really sure how to interpret them. Basically my internet connection keeps getting worse since about a year. My ISP got bought up by another one some time ago, before that all was fine (Arcor -> Vodafone). Played on Jay2 couple of times the last days and every 10-15 minutes I get a connection interrupt, the game has a complete freeze then, can't move or receive any updates from the server, lagometer all yellow. After waiting one or two minutes it continues as if nothing happened. This happens on no other server (US or EU). Though I keep getting yellow spikes on all servers since quite a while, sometimes more sometimes less but always present. Changing net-settings in ET makes no difference, TCP/IP settings like MTU on my PC and router are fine as far I can google, also tried some things but no change in any way, so I think the problem is on ISP side but want to be really sure. Here WinMTR reports of Jay2/3, actually the one of Jay3 seems worse but I don't get the connection interrupts only yellow spikes. Bandwidth is usually fine, pings are fairly stable but it can happen that I have 45 today, 80 tomorrow, 60 the day after. That wouldn't bother me that much but obviously there is some packet loss on the way, but how can it happen that packets in between are dropped but the target server shows all reveived? Administrators daredevil Posted September 11, 2013 Administrators Posted September 11, 2013 Run the one for jay3 for 1000 packets... That stupid data-center requires 1000 packets... I will pass on the report to their network team. Also does it started today on jay2? or before also? Does it happens to other players at same time or just to you? Quote
S3ti Posted September 11, 2013 Author Posted September 11, 2013 (edited) Wasn't playing on Jay2 for a while except the last 3 or 4 days, since then I have the issue. Never had it that bad earlier except a short lagspike here and there. Tbh I didn't ask other players but no one complained about lags or see someone going 999, so I guess it's just me (could be wrong, can check demos if the map has continued). Here you go (Jay3), they get 40 extra packets! |------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | WinMTR statistics | | Host - % | Sent | Recv | Best | Avrg | Wrst | Last | |------------------------------------------------|------|------|------|------|------|------| | easy.box - 0 | 1040 | 1040 | 0 | 1 | 19 | 3 | | dslb-178-007-000-001.pools.arcor-ip.net - 0 | 1040 | 1040 | 15 | 18 | 34 | 17 | | 92.79.246.5 - 0 | 1040 | 1040 | 16 | 21 | 134 | 18 | | 92.79.212.105 - 0 | 1040 | 1040 | 16 | 20 | 36 | 22 | | 92.79.211.202 - 0 | 1040 | 1040 | 20 | 27 | 50 | 23 | | 80.156.163.225 - 0 | 1040 | 1040 | 19 | 22 | 71 | 20 | | f-ed5-i.F.DE.NET.DTAG.DE - 0 | 1040 | 1040 | 26 | 32 | 118 | 27 | | 193.159.165.210 - 0 | 1040 | 1040 | 26 | 28 | 53 | 29 | | core1.hetzner.de - 27 | 505 | 371 | 44 | 46 | 60 | 51 | | core22.hetzner.de - 1 | 1009 | 1001 | 35 | 37 | 77 | 36 | | juniper2.rz12.hetzner.de - 0 | 1040 | 1040 | 35 | 41 | 185 | 36 | | hos-tr3.ex3k12.rz12.hetzner.de - 0 | 1040 | 1040 | 47 | 49 | 67 | 48 | |static.170.72.63.178.clients.your-server.de - 0 | 1040 | 1040 | 33 | 36 | 58 | 35 | |________________________________________________|______|______|______|______|______|______| WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider Edited September 11, 2013 by S3ti 1 Quote

Clan Friend SunLight Posted September 11, 2013 Clan Friend Posted September 11, 2013 Strange that at 1st hop you have such high values. pity that winmtr has no standard deviation like Linux mtr, so it' hard to tell how often that 'worst' value actually happens(?) Is there a way for you to telnet to your modem, and issue a ping command straight from there (to bypass your operating system)? Quote
Administrators daredevil Posted September 11, 2013 Administrators Posted September 11, 2013 Weird enough, but what could cause this? Probably a network glitch? or some switch configuration? I know some network devices are configured so that ICMP replies are their least priority... To be honest, I have zero idea.. Just a wild guess. Out host data center requires packet loss at both side winMTR. Let me try to run MTR from another machine in same data-center.. see if that catches anything. 1 Quote

I can ping in the webinterface but it only pings 4 times and not continuous, but they are same as Windows shows. Currently connected through W-Lan, a bit fluctuating between -58/-62 dBm. Also ran WinMTR on other servers and different hosters, some little packetloss on some routes but everything that involves 'core1.hetzner.de' and 'core22.hetzner.de' looks horrible Edited September 11, 2013 by S3ti Quote

S3ti Posted September 13, 2013 Author Posted September 13, 2013 Yet another update...Played a bit on Jay1 again, was all good even with many players for a few maps. Then crap started again and my lagometer looks like this, though the red spikes are not always present and that horrible, the yellow ones are more or less always present, starting slowly and getting worse the more players are on the server. At least that's the only obvious reference, dunno if really related to each other... as I said before changing net related settings to any value changes nothing (rate, cl_maxpackets, cl_packetdup) Right after disconnecting I started WinMTR: |------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | WinMTR statistics | | Host - % | Sent | Recv | Best | Avrg | Wrst | Last | |------------------------------------------------|------|------|------|------|------|------| | easy.box - 0 | 501 | 501 | 0 | 1 | 37 | 1 | | dslb-088-067-160-001.pools.arcor-ip.net - 0 | 501 | 501 | 15 | 16 | 46 | 16 | | 92.79.246.5 - 0 | 501 | 501 | 16 | 23 | 145 | 24 | | 92.79.215.197 - 0 | 501 | 501 | 16 | 19 | 50 | 17 | | 85.205.25.130 - 0 | 501 | 501 | 42 | 47 | 136 | 47 | | xe-0-3-0.cr1.lhr1.uk.nlayer.net - 1 | 497 | 496 | 40 | 44 | 122 | 42 | | ae2-70g.cr1.lhr1.uk.nlayer.net - 0 | 501 | 501 | 39 | 42 | 127 | 40 | | ae0-40g.cr1.lhr2.uk.nlayer.net - 0 | 501 | 501 | 42 | 45 | 125 | 43 | | xe-1-2-1.cr1.nyc3.us.nlayer.net - 0 | 501 | 501 | 114 | 117 | 167 | 115 | | ae0-30g.cr1.nyc2.us.nlayer.net - 0 | 501 | 501 | 112 | 116 | 162 | 114 | | xe-1-2-1.cr2.ord1.us.nlayer.net - 6 | 413 | 391 | 135 | 140 | 188 | 139 | | ae2-30g.ar1.ord1.us.nlayer.net - 6 | 410 | 387 | 139 | 143 | 167 | 141 | | tge8-1.ar2.ord1.us.scnet.net - 6 | 417 | 396 | 137 | 140 | 173 | 139 | | 8.9.4.227 - 5 | 429 | 411 | 138 | 140 | 171 | 139 | |________________________________________________|______|______|______|______|______|______| WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider What the hell is Starts to drive me crazy! S3ti Posted September 19, 2013 Author Posted September 19, 2013 Problem on Jay2 is still present, getting full packet loss every ~10 minutes. Lasts about 5-10 minutes and then I can reconnect. Started WinMTR right after lagometer went full yellow in the upper line. |------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | WinMTR statistics | | Host - % | Sent | Recv | Best | Avrg | Wrst | Last | |------------------------------------------------|------|------|------|------|------|------| | easy.box - 0 | 500 | 500 | 0 | 1 | 29 | 1 | | dslb-178-007-000-001.pools.arcor-ip.net - 0 | 500 | 500 | 15 | 17 | 42 | 16 | | 92.79.246.1 - 0 | 500 | 500 | 17 | 19 | 54 | 17 | | 92.79.215.129 - 0 | 500 | 500 | 17 | 19 | 44 | 17 | | 85.205.25.118 - 0 | 500 | 500 | 44 | 48 | 98 | 44 | | xe-0-3-0.cr1.lhr1.uk.nlayer.net - 0 | 500 | 500 | 42 | 47 | 66 | 45 | | ae2-70g.cr1.lhr1.uk.nlayer.net - 0 | 500 | 500 | 43 | 47 | 110 | 44 | | xe-4-0-1.cr1.ewr1.us.nlayer.net - 0 | 500 | 500 | 115 | 122 | 175 | 116 | | ae3-60g.cr1.nyc3.us.nlayer.net - 0 | 500 | 500 | 115 | 118 | 170 | 116 | | ae1-50g.ar1.nyc3.us.nlayer.net - 0 | 500 | 500 | 117 | 120 | 142 | 120 | | as20473.ae7.ar1.nyc3.us.nlayer.net - 0 | 500 | 500 | 116 | 119 | 146 | 119 | | No response from host - 100 | 200 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | | 108-61-21-94.constant.com - 56 | 274 | 123 | 0 | 116 | 131 | 117 | |________________________________________________|______|______|______|______|______|______| WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider Idk, something is just not right with my connection...
