Jaaa!& Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 "BEIJING – Chinese authorities caught nearly 5,400 suspects last year in a crackdown on online pornography and have vowed to strengthen Internet policing. Beijing's pervasive policing of cyberspace and attempts to block the Internet are already among the world's most stringent. In a statement late Thursday, the Ministry of Public Security said the "purification of the Internet" and fighting of online crime are closely tied to the country's stability." Having the strict's use of Internet in the world, China is doing its part to fight computer abusers. Quote
Administrators daredevil Posted January 3, 2010 Administrators Posted January 3, 2010 China is also cracking down on online games also. Their online revenue of online games was more then 900$ million. BEIJING (AFP) – China has placed more than 4.65 million computers at some 80,000 Internet cafes under watch in a bid to crack down on violent or pornographic online games, state media reported Friday. Xinhua quoted Culture Minister Cai Wu as saying in an interview that his ministry had banned 219 Internet games for carrying "lewd, pornographic and violent" content and had blocked access to games 87 million times this year. Cai's ministry plans to step up regulation of the fast-expanding online game sector and "would improve censorship of the games in the future," Xinhua reported. Internet use has expanded at a dizzying pace in China, which now has the world's largest online population with at least 338 million users. The number of Internet gamers in China reached 217 million in June, or 64.2 percent of the country's online community, according to the government-linked China Internet Network Information Centre. I still wonder why they never go after stopping piracy. Quote

In the USA online gambling is illegal as far as US companies go, they are not allowed to run online casinos. However this means that other countries are making bank off American $ because all those sites are accessible through the internet and online gambling is a huge industry. With our economy so bad, Why would the the government allow other countries to make money from us and not allow American casinos to make online sites where the dollar can stay circulating? Quote

Question would be why would you play on online casinos? Are they real? 80% appx are just fake and takes money from you or are scams. Quote

We are a moral toilet to them, but they don't care about intellectual property or patents. I guess it's in their national self-interest to allow rampant piracy since their exchange rate is set artificially low and their average consumer wouldn't be able to afford anything if it wasn't copied. The whole Chinese approach to global domination is to copy everyone's technology then do it ten times cheaper. Quote

They would have to instate some method of tracking or proof of credibility on the website for that. However if all was well and the only thing you are looking at is what i posted above I would say there is money that could be re-circulated. I do not gamble so I can only assume that the reason is because a lot of people like to gamble and it is easy access when you have a source accessible through your computer. Quote

It's actually illegal to send money to offshore gambling companies. Before the economy collapsed, my wife was a fraud investigator at Western Union and one of her responsibilities was to check that Americans weren't wiring money to all the known gambling companies. These companies change their names a lot and hide behind other legitimate businesses. So they send their money to First National Bank of Bermuda supposedly for their mortgage payment, but it's really going to the account of a gambling website. They still manage to make enormous amounts of money, most of it untaxed and invisible. Quote

So there is no way to regulate this since there seems to be a prohibition stamp over this? Quote

Nope. It's totally illegal, that's why they do it overseas. These overseas servers are usually managed remotely from within the USA by the owners. The only thing in the offshore location is the actual physical machine the game runs on. But you can still go to your local mafia-run, government-approved casino and lose your life savings and be within legal compliance. Go figure. Quote

Its too bad that many people do not even realize this goes on. Same with many other things I suppose. Prohibition never works. Edited January 3, 2010 by Methuselah Quote

Considering that they are WTO, I find it sad that any complaint lodged against them for copying technology or designs that were patented elsewhere can take over 2 years to be investigated, and even then, nothing may come out of it.
