EnderWiggin Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Voice control technology opens doors. Instead of controlling 1 soldier, with voice control you can control a whole squad. -- A la Full Spectrum Warrior for original Xbox. Of course, like in many games where you ally with computer generated servants, you can preset their level of aggressiveness or basic job description: Engage all enemies at will, engage only on command, defensive only etc. 1 key will open a comm channel to your whole squad. Basic, recognized commands will spur them to action. 1 unique key will open a comm channel to each member of the squad. So you can give different orders to different members. 1 key will open a comm channel to HQ... call in an AS, gunship, artillery or extraction. Hold the key while speaking, or press once to open and once again to close the channel. Examples of commands? Advance, fire, cover, suppress, grenade.... plus directions: right left, low, high, rear, forward. Some of these can be preset. For instance, Squad member #1 can be preset to cover left. So telling him to shoot without specifying "left" will be OK. Playing as part of a larger army? Then 1 key will open a channel to your fellow, human squad leaders. Of course, this voice control doesn't have to be just for CoD or similar games. It could expand to space shooters where you control a squad of... X-wings, for example. Or, a squad of Hydralisks. How about this becomes reality 10-15 years from now? Why not? If any of you techies develop this idea, cool. Just give me 20%. Quote
Ol Smoke Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Wasn't the original Battlefield series like that somewhat? You controlled either a platoon, squad or Army? Wait till you see the immersion games that are coming maybe next year or so. We saw a demo of these at a trade show in Las Vegas last year. Phenomenally awesome! Quote
Jefke Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Yeah, that's battlefield serie in a nutshell (everything until bf:bc) Planetside 2 brings the whole 'be part of a larger army' to a MUCH larger scale than even battlefield: 2000 players on each map (6000 per server), persistent war with no rounds 12 people in a squad, 4 squads in a platoon. Platoons can be part of a outfit => platoon leaders, squadleaders , (commanders: not sure if already in game) Quote
Dddrgn Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 The problem is, COD will NEVER be like that. The developers are going for a close range, fast paced, spray-and-pray- type game, and through the last 4 games have changed virtually nothing. The series is now releasing a new game Every Single Year - so they put less time and effort into each one, degrading the quality over buyintime. There's a reason I'm never buying a new cod game.
