Oh silly me! Why didn't I think of that! Just kidding. Yes, what ever I click, it still won't work.

do you get an error message again after pressing "yes,no,cancel"? i guess you already tried a new fresh installation.

try the following,

- before starting cod4, plug in your microphone (you dont have to use it)

- start the multiplayer

- press "no" if you get the error message again.

No I don't get an error after I click Yes, No or Cancel. I have re-installed the game plenty of time but no use.

I always have my microphone plugged in. I never unplug it. And I did replug it and tried it. No help :(

means your game crashed lol. So is it just not openning fully. or does it open the not work? If thats the case you might be SOL.

Does it work now after you click continue and you are just worried what the message is? If so it is safe to click to continue in normal mode and ignore. This message pops up when the game doesn't exit properly. At one point my game said it every time for a month, I ignored it.

Shoot. Downloaded it from a torrent. I rarely use Steam now cause I just hate it. Did I have any other program running? When? I usually have my firewall down since it irritates my gaming.

It might be, but I have seen people with a original CD getting the same error.
