Ol Smoke Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 When this map was first being Beta tested it had a complete underground map. Not many people got to play on it. I was lucky, I had a friend who beta tested games then and he had a copy of it. When it is was in beta it had two hidden stairwells that went down into the subsection. There were lots of rooms and passages to play in. The lighting was cool. Some areas were bright and others were near dark. It was like a real subworld of Chinatowns that exist today. After the map was finished, they found that it occupied too much room and got very laggy and sometimes crashed. So the sub-section was closed off when it was released for play. You can still see where one of the basement stairwells used to be. It is in the building with the "U" shaped countertop with a cash register on it. There is a stairwell going up in front of it. Look at the floor behind the countertop and you will see where the stairwell used to be. The other is completely hidden now in a basement on the other side of the map. Maybe someone on here has played the beta version and saw this also. I have tried to go down in there since it was closed off, by using "No Clipping" but it won't work. Just FYI Quote
UT_ski_bum Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Interesting. I have also heard that the map with all the silos and blast shields had extra features too. Whats the name? I dont remember because I dont like the map. But I have heard that there was an underground to that map that was removed. What a shame. Quote
LainTime/Bazingaa^_- Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 its countdown you are thinking about. Smoke, do you know if there still is a way to get down there? was trying in spec mode but no luck. Quote

I dont remember because I dont like the map. But I have heard that there was an underground to that map that was removed. What a shame. I have tried several times. If you go to spectator when it is being played, you can go outside of the city. There is one location where you can see under the street level. If you know where that building is with the hidden staircase, you can actually see the stairs going down. But then it just disappears into the grey color where the underground used to be. When we played it, we used pistols only and no UAV map. There were many times I had the crap scared out of me when someone would jump out of a doorway or room and shoot you. It was sort of like Pipeline but much more elaborate. The lighting was great. You had to set your lighting to the best you could get, because it was so cool down there. its countdown you are thinking about. Smoke, do you know if there still is a way to get down there? was trying in spec mode but no luck. Sorry I quoted the wrong person. Good to talk to you LT. See you on the maps. Quote

nl3 Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 Here is where I am talking about: A staircase would make sense right there, It's really a weird place to put a counter and cash-register.... If someone still had the beta, would they still have the map and could it be usable? Quote
Ol Smoke Posted December 14, 2012 Author Posted December 14, 2012 The beta was a stand alone map so if a person had that I would think it would still work. I have lost contact with the kid that was beta testing it. Otherwise I would contact him and see if I could get a copy. Quote

I understand it must have been years ago Would have loved to see a screenshot of the real thing I generally the more detailed larger maps than the smaller ones. Quote
Dddrgn Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 that's quite cool, wish that they had kept it in the game. Quote
daBroviest Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 I also heard that Killhouse had an outdoors part, and you could get out by climbing up through a hole in the wall on either side. I may be wrong, though. But the Chinatown thing sounds amazing and I wish they kept it in. Quote
