kapone Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 Hey everyone, I just wanted to see if any of the other members were business owners. I am currently in the process of opening up my first business and man I gotta say it has been stressful. I live in Canada, and I am opening up a tapas bar and lounge. (What better place to post in the forums). If any of you do work for yourselves, how was the journey been? When was it that you felt the most proud of your business? And what major setbacks did you have to overcome to get where you are now? And for those who have not taken the leap of faith, if you could open your own business, what would it be? Personally right now, I am going through all the city permits to start our renovations on our location. It has been such a dragged on process and has costed us time and money. Thankfully today they are done and we can finally move forward to being open. I am not sure if any of you are familiar with hookah or shisha, but we will be featuring them at our spot as my city has never had a place do that before. Post your business experiences or future goals here! Quote
RetroLeaves Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 I've been working as a freelancer for little over a month now, so I guess that counts It's going well, I've got enough work lined up to keep me busy for the next few weeks, and more coming in each week. Quote
kapone Posted November 8, 2012 Author Posted November 8, 2012 Nice, what kind of projects do you work on? The best is when you get referred by a previous client. Good business always brings in more business. Quote
RetroLeaves Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 I work as a freelance subtitler. Right now I'm doing a show about restoring old cars. Quote
Dak Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 (edited) Starting your own business is a lot of work and can be stressful as you have found out. The Bar and Restaruant industry can be especiallly challenging. The bright side is there is a tremendous sense of accomplishment and hopefully some financial benefits once you are up and running. Congratulations and best of luck on your venture. Will look you up when I am in Toronto.... are you located anywhere near the Landing Strip? Edited November 8, 2012 by Dak Quote
Administrators daredevil Posted November 8, 2012 Administrators Posted November 8, 2012 I could some up in 3 words..from my experience. Work, work and work. Congratz on your new business! We all wish you grand success Quote
docwarren Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 I would have loved to have been a mortician and opened up my own funeral home. You know demand will always be there since everyone dies at some point. It's all about supply and demand in a market society. 1 Quote
kapone Posted November 9, 2012 Author Posted November 9, 2012 Doc, they would be dying to come in! (I had to). And yea it has been a ton of work, today we finally submitted to the city for the permits which has been haunting us forever. Once we are open I will be sure to post some pictures of the place. Dak, we aren't too far away from the Landing Strip actually haha - we are located in Brampton, just about 30min away from Toronto. Quote
