I believe broke the sound barrier.

 

Just to clarify, the speed of sound changes depending on what altitude you're at (density of air). He hit 729 miles per hour, so at sea level that would be at 0.9577 mach. But most likely it is considered above the speed of sound at the altitude he was at when he hit 729 miles per hour. We'll have to wait for them to confirm or deny that.

 

There is also the question of was there a sonic boom and shock wave. I assume that once he hit denser atmosphere there probably was some kind of shock wave. Considering his suit is not aerodynamic, the drag force would have increased extremely fast.

 

Anyways, I am not expert in this, just know some of it from what I've learned in college so we'll what the scientists say :P

I saw this on TV and jump for me to look great ... I admire the courage of this jumper. You can jump, but from such a height? as for me, should join our f | a family :)
