Basel 2-2 Tottenham (agg: 4-4, Basel win 4-1 on penalties) The European dream for Murat Yakin's men continues, with the scalp of Tottenham added to those of FC Zenit St Petersburg and FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk from previous rounds. They were outstanding over the two legs, and kept their nerve when needed, scoring all four of their penalties taken, to make it to a first ever European semi-final.

Rubin 3-2 Chelsea (agg: 4-5) The hosts came from behind twice to earn victory on the night, but the Blues' first-leg advantage proved enough in the end to take them through, despite the scare of a late Rubin surge.

Lazio 1-1 Fenerbahçe (agg: 1-3) The Turkish club avoid defeat in Italy for the first time in their history, and it is more than enough to see them through to their first ever European semi-final. They survived an onslaught, but Caner Erkin's powerful effort proved too much for Lazio to overcome.

Newcastle 1-1 Benfica (agg: 2-4): The hosts gave it a valiant effort, and had chances in a frenetic finish, but the defecit was too great and Benfica reach the final four
