Wait what? They were only meant to shoot one guy, but killed 1 innocent and wounded 9 other innocent people?

Ugh, just reminds me of why I don't like the police

I guess everyone isn´t Steven Seagal shooting a matchhead off from 20feet distance. And I don´t see another choice as to shoot back on a mad man shooting at them. Was luck he was just an ordinary guy with a gun. If he was trained and on amok and took down those 2 police officers and then opened fire on crowd to shoot to kill...

Most people can't even BEGIN to imagine to immense pressure and panic you experience when someone points a gun at you.

For these 2 cops to act that quickly, neutralize the BG, and only kill 1 innocent, is AMAZING IMO.

Who could do better than them on a crowded NYC street? I certainly know I couldn't...

And 1 innocent from friendly fire is better than him going on a shooting spree and killing/injuring 10-30 people...

You don't like police because you are Dutch. And for some reason they don't like police here, which I don't understand.

I have respect for police, they are putting their lives in danger just for us (stupid citizens). Same goes with the military.

Cops in Holland seem to have nothing better to do with their life lol

Brother went outside with some friends once and his friends burned some x-mas tree on street, but it wasn't even fully on fire, just like a little part... police came and brother ran back to house eventhough he didn't do anything.. later they came with 5 police cars to our house to arrest them and they put them in jail for the night, like seriously? They really have nothing better to do lol. Also, some cop here a few years ago killed his own neighbour then burried her in his own garden. No, I'm not going to respect them in Holland... maybe they're different in other countries lol, in holland it's best if you're not a cop.. 90% of the country would hate you for being a cop lmao

Hm I understood 9 was insured from police officers gunsfire. 2 were killed, one shot down by "bad guy" and 1 was that "bad guy" himself? Or I can´t read anymore....

1 dead from cops, 9 injured. But still.. injury is not dead :)

this was not a "slam the cop thread", just an observation that wounding 9 people in the process of killing one is generally something to try and avoid...

perhaps the cops should reconsider their ammunition loads, maybe use frangible bullets? Dunno how feasible it would be considering the variety of situations they might be facing though.

Well I wouldn´t call a man pulling a gun on police officers totally "innocent".

Here is the article I read (with a video of the event) http://www.latimes.c...0,7650743.story

What I understand is:

Gunman killed someone. Construction worker tells cops. Cops chase gunman. Gunman pulls gun on cops. Cops kill gunman.

In the process an innocent person was killed, and 9 others were hit/grazed by bullets and/or fragments.

I'm not saying that it's OK for cops to kill innocent people. I'm saying that if this guy was not found, he could have gone on a rampage and killed more people than just the 1...

Maybe Funk can shed some more light on this situation with his experience, but I have read that using frangible rounds in home defense is a no-no (It has lead to one lawsuit that I've read). And I've read that any round used has the ability to fragment. This is why I chose hollow point rounds for my 9mm Carbine, I didn't want a lawsuit if I ever had to use it to save my life..

Yeah, I'm confused too.

I understood from different articles that they killed the bad guy and injured 9 bystanders (so no innocent killed by cops).

and the bad guy killed his victim.

I think this is right.

@Anti Ya I don't know much about guns tbh, just stuff I've read.

I am no expert but the term frangible has a wide variety of definition. Believe they were designed for close quarters combat live fire training. The design was to fragment on impact to minimize ricochet. They will kill, though a majority move with less momentum than a standard round. Not sure if they are illegal in home defense, that's a good question. I honestly have not touched a gun in a very long time. Working in the jail we don't carry them. traded and sold all other stuff when kids were born. Home defense now is me, my dagger and two pitties....lol. I will ask a couple coppers about the rounds to find out....
