some malware disguise themselves as Vlc player

Was it on a movie website when it caused a blue screen ?

Does it only bluescreen when using Vlc player?

Are you using Windows 7 ?

it could be caused by something you recently installed . did you upgrade or update a driver or something?

I haven't done anything to my computer in a week. I'm running windows 7 and I've had VLC downloaded since I first got my desktop which was about two months ago. I watched the movie on my computer no website.

Kiirby, you posted your dmp file above, a couple minutes before my original post here, which I have now removed!

I will let the more expert inspect your dmp file, but from what I can search, the ndis.sys driver may be related to network card. But...

If you've only had one BSOD, it's really no big deal. If you start getting more and more, then you can start to worry...

I had the same problem as you and I solved it.

Follow this steps:

  1. use Blue Screen View, you can download it from (no need install): here or from here

  2. open it

  3. with this program you will find the cause that brought the BSOD. (for example: was caused by following file: ntoskrnl.exe.

  4. open My Computer and then do click on: Disk Local C --> properties --> Search --> all files an folders: and here enter the above example (ntoskrnl.exe).

  5. If you find any program or driver about this file (ntoskrnl.exe)--> this ntoskrnl.exe is an example for file crash. You maybe will have another file crash... this is an example, immediately uninstall program or driver that contains the file.

  6. Done :)

To take care of your windows, I recommend you few programs that you keep Windows clean.

  • CCleaner: download it from here
  • Dll-file fixer: This program seeks useless registry left behind uninstallations.(It is important to delete useless registry after uninstallation.) You can download it from [link removed] (Version Full Cracked)

Good Luck! :)

yeah it can be a driver (network card) or it could be/also be bad ram or hard drive (Driver IRQL not less or equal)

im gonna guess its a integrated network card so go to the site of the company who made your motherboard (MSI,Asus,GIGABYTE) and download new drivers if you don't know what your mobo is you can quickly look it up with cpuz (if you can find the motherboard brand but not the drivers just tell use what cpuz says the mobo is and one of us should be able to find the drivers having said this what im think it's a bad mobo may be making the network card mess up if you are using a integrated network card blown capacitors maybe i would tell you to open up and see if there are any blown capacitors but i don't know if you know how to if you do then do so

I'm also hooked up to a Ethernet cord.

Also I just remember something else about the blue screen, before it happened I had changed my power plan from "Sleep: Never" to "Sleep: 10 minutes"

that might have caused it, but if it had what do I do about it? lol

Did it only happened once?

Because if it only happened once you should do nothing, starting to mess with drivers will probably make it worse.

You can see if there are drivers that need an update, but that's how far I would go.
