I have a TV and and my laptop. Sometimes my laptop is my main screen, and sometimes my TV is my main. I am wondering how I can control which is my main and which is secondary so I can change it up when I need to depending on what I am doing. When I play ET I like my TV to be the main, but when I am doing normal web surfing and things like that I would like my laptop to be the main.

I am running vista 64, I have tried to go into my display setting and I hit "Identify monitors" and that doesn't do much for me. I have also tried to select to make a certain monitor my main but for some reason that option is not highlighted for me to select.

Any help is appreciated.

Hmm, go to your desktop, right click, then go to screen resolution and change the "Display"...click apply, and if it's what you want, click ok

If you got a ati/amd videocard you can also do it in the Catalyst control center (or AMD vision engine control center, which seems to be the latest ,name)

-You should have something: caleed general screen taskes (or similar), where you can choice default setting

nVidia not sure, will check later

My laptop can switch on the fly. There is a button on the keyboard called 'Fn'. I hold the 'Fn' key and press F8 to swap displays. Im sure you have somethin very similiar. My F8 key has a 'square' monitor design. Thats what you look for, but keep in mind that it may not be f8 like mine. Fn + whatever your monitor key is.

You have only two screens, laptop and TV?

The easiest way is to install Windows 7 :P That has awesome [Win]+[P] to toggle between screens, but that is probably not an option.

The second option is to use Achiyans approach, which should work great as well, but not always unfortunately.

Third option is to use a dedicated program for this. Since my setup is slightly more complex (TV, mainscreen, laptop and 5 different preferable setups) I use DisplayFusion, which I believe to be working on Vista as well and the free version should already support what you want, although you should check for yourself. You could also check Ultramon or Multimon.

You should check if it works for you in that order.

Just keep it simple and go to the settings of your GPU...

Nvidia -> Nvidia Control Panel

ATI -> ATI Catalyst

Intel -> Intel graphics and media control panel

Nice tip. I'm going to try that later. I have a TV for movies hooked up along side my pc screen.
