Over the last two decades, Harold Hackett has sent out over 4,800 messages in a bottle from Prince Edward Island, Canada's smallest province along the Atlantic coastline.

Every message asks for the finder to send a response back to Hackett, and since 1996 he has received over 3,100 responses from all over the world.

In this First Person account, Hackett talks about the items people have sent him and the unexpected side effects from his hobby.

What are your thoughts about this?

I personally think it's awesome haha, I'm sure it's fun to do if you get answers back

It is quite cool, and reading it, I'm tempted to do it myself.

But the hard part would be getting that letter from someone who you think would be a very, very interesting character, but not being able to meet them in your lifetime.

But yea, the failure rate seems pretty high, I wonder what happened to the majority of them.

Hrm. That was very interesting. Thank you for posting that. I would enjoy finding a bottle on the beach lol.
