Funksdead Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Another friend and co-worker of mine has decided to kill himself. This is the second one in six months. Please if you or someone you love shows any signs of extreme depression get help. It is a selfish act and does no one any good. If you live in NY you probably saw the news about the guy at the State Fair who killed himself, that's him. If you need help get it, Nuff' said peace Quote

G!NG3R420 Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 I agree. In the army we have annual training. One of these courses are about suicide prevention. In the army we have a program called ACE. Ask, Care, Escort. Ask someone if they are thinking of hurting themself. Most of the time people who have that thought will let you know. Care for your buddy. Dont just say he is stupid if you see/hear him say or do anything that is suspicious. Escort him to a place to get help and never leave him alone. It can happen all too fast then your stuck asking what you could have done to prevent this. Suicide is not something that anyone can deal with easily. "This is a permanent solution to a temporary problem". As funkbut said, watch your friends and family close. Who knows what anyone is really dealing with. We just had this training friday, and its good training to have. Be prepared to handle these kind of situations but also be prepared to try and prevent this from happening. 1 death is too many for anyone's life. There is always a way out and hopefully you can be the one to show them its not the right way. In ending Funkbot, I am sorry for your loss. Nothing can be said to help these individuals now all we can hope for is that others will soon see it is more harmful than helpful. Quote

Ask, Care, Escort. Was just coming to post something like this as well, sometimes we may notice friends stop coming around, not calling as often, especially after having some bad event happen in their lives like divorce or lost of a friend or relative, sometimes they ask to be left alone. This is because they don't really understand or the events have not settled in. If you have someone like this in your life, please take the time to go over their house I found that they often ignore phone calls, emails, texts etc... so stopping by using any excuse could really help and show them that people do care about them, how they feel, and that they understand what they are going through and just this alone might just be enough for them, and give them that boost to re-consider things. PHANTASM Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Sorry to hear about your loss Funkbut. I have had several friends end their own lives over the years. It haunts me. Quote

That is a great program to get people to look at others in a different light. Hopefully the Sheriffs dept. I work for adapts a similar idea. The irony is we go to training on how to spot a suicidal inmate, who would of guessed we need to watch each other more than them..... Quote
Thoracic Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Sorry to hear about that Funk....it is a tough thing to deal with no easy answer. Quote
