Saizou Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Ok, this seems a bit weird (more like hellishly weird), but few days ago I was on a trip and I found an iPhone on the ground on one of the stops. It's locked and only thing I could use is voice command with which I tried to dial few names but sim card seems locked. Tried messaging via Facebook someone whose name has popped up randomly when using voice dial, haven't got any response yet (figured when someone messages you out of the blue on Facebook saying that he has an iPhone and wants to return it and needs info, it looks like a classic case of scam). The owner is apparently Dutch, the phone language is Dutch and the sim card is from Vodafone issued in Netherlands, and iPhone too was probably bought in Netherlands, also got the serial number from the sim tray. I'm not sure local Apple stores or police would care to bother with it, and there's no Vodafone service in here, so I wanted to ask if anyone was a Vodafone or an Apple thing user and willing to call Vodafone or Apple in Netherlands to see if they can find the owner by serial number. But when you cant trace owner. Dont give it to police. Just use it yourself instead off some cop (they sure aint searching for owner). (but thats my opinion) Cheers Roppie Quote

Yeah well if it fails I'll email them myself and see what happens but I think you guys somehow have better chances at local providers. @Rop: I agree on the police part, they don't seem reliable when it comes to such cases. Bart Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 best bet to be honest is if u have the cable to an apple phone plug it up to your computer, and sometime's info can strike you there, thats what i did with a lost iphone once, and returned to orginal owner and got money 4 it lol's Quote

Also, I can go to a local apple store if needed to check if they can track the phones, but I highly doubt that. If you can't find the owner, just plug it into a computer and reset it with itunes. Then jailbreak it Quote
Saizou Posted September 1, 2011 Author Posted September 1, 2011 To sum it up, Vodafone wasn't much of a help even tho I managed to find out and provide the guy's name (he named his phone "iphone van xxxx"). Tried to look him up on Facebook again but there are loads of people with that exact name. I guess I'll keep it for now until something new shows up which I doubt it will. Quote
Waster Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 iPhone 5 Rumor: Did a Prototype Get Lost in a Tequila Bar? Seriously, guys? Again? Josh Wolford | September 1, 2011 @ 9:30am | 1 Comment A A A At this moment it’s possible that an upcoming iPhone, possibly the iPhone 5, might be hanging out in the unswept corners of a Mexican restaurant. Or it might be in the hands of someone ready to make a big score. Or the prototype might not be lost at all. Such is the rub when it comes to single sources. According to CNET, an Apple employee misplaced the unreleased iPhone at Cava 22, a “tequila lounge” in San Francisco’s Mission district. The source indicated that the iPhone might have been sold on Craigslist for 200 bucks. CNET has more details on how Apple reacted to the loss of their prototype. Apparently, once the unnamed employee manned up the courage to tell his bosses what he had done, Apple contacted the San Francisco Police Department. Apple electronically traced the iPhone to a “two-floor single family home” in the Bernal Heights neighborhood. With the help of the SFPD, Apple’s investigators went to the house. A twenty-something opened the door and acknowledged being at Cava 22 on the night in question but denied knowing anything about an iPhone prototype. He allowed police to search his house but they came up empty. According to the source, Apple offered the man money for the device, but he stuck with his story. If this all sounds somewhat familiar, that’s because this has happened before – under almost identical circumstances.” Last year, an Apple software engineer lost the iPhone 4 prototype in a German beer garden in Redwood, California. That prototype ended up falling into the hands of Gizmodo, who leaked all the juicy new details of the device. If this whole thing is true, nobody’s saying anything about it. Apple, Craigslist and the SFPD are all keeping quiet. The owner of Cava 22 has said that he remembers a guy calling multiple times about a lost iPhone. But who really knows if that had anything to do with this prototype? I’m sure plenty of people have too much tequila and misplace their mobile device. Did all of this really happen? Is there a prototype of the iPhone 5 out there somewhere? Maybe. I mean, it has happened before. If the secret phone was obtained sometime in July, however, it is kind of strange that nobody has come forward with it yet. The time to cash in on the find might be coming to a close. Most reports put the iPhone 5 release sometime in October. You werent in san francisco were you? Quote
