Matasanos
Well i hope dont hurt emotions, but... First, the car audio do you want, are not SPL or SQ, it´s calle SQL (sound quality loud).... Speakers works moving air? yes, but, remember the SOUND is a vibration of the air, not the presure of the air, is not the same. Power Acoutick.. i would not belive to spec´s on this trade, cuz its a cuestionable trade.... Pollyfill help to lower 1 to 2 hz, in SOME boxes, if the speaker box is desinged with all T/S parameters... And finally, the speaker size desnt not guarantee to give more decibels, i have a 6.5" subwoofer and sound like a 12".. whats the secret?? the speaker box.... not the power, not the size of the speaker.. Antichrist
I never went beyond volume 30 on the HU, and never played the sub beyond 25. I have no idea how high it even goes up to. I've never heard any sub distortion at all. I'm a little pissed, and confused right now. I'm wondering should I tell Amazon to where to shove this sub, or Power Acoustik... Fogarty
you should first try some more rms power, if it still sounds distorted you should complain
Antichrist
you should first try some more rms power, if it still sounds distorted you should complain I don't have an amp to produce RMS power. A sub will play with virtually any power, Although a minimum power is usually recommended to produce sound output at an acceptable level. Subs do not blow with too little power. If this was the case, every time you turn the volume down, your subs/speakers would blow. I gave it 180 RMS and it worked perfectly. And now it's dead. I now have no sound at all from the sub. The 4 days that I used it, I heard NO distortion at all. It was the cleanest sounding sub/install that I have ever owned. Even listening to the sub at the back of the truck with the hatch and tailgate open, it sounded great. I never used the bass boost on the amp. Amp was set for low pass xover. Bass boost on my headunit was off. Bass level on my headunit was at 0. I know it was a cheaper sub, but WTF... to blow with half power, volume not cranked, no audible distortion, I'm a little pissed. And I was reading their warranty info, they want me to pay $15 to cover return shipping... WTF seriously??

WTF seriously?? i know you won't blow any sub with less power then recommended, but are you sure it's blown? try to push the surround with 2 hands to the inside, if you hear any scratching sound by then it's blown, but perhaps some cable came loose or something, which could lead to no sound, mostly when a sub is blown up, it still gives sound but doesn't sound like it used to. even if you've overpowered it it should still give sound unless the voice-coil is broken at multiple places... try what i mentioned might help, if not tell me i can maybe find another solution why it doesn't give sound
Antichrist
Already tried moving the cone by hand, and I didn't hear any scratching sounds. I still think it's blown. I plan to check the wiring later or tomorrow, but I have never had a loose wire cause buzzing/scratching sounds while playing. I have however had this sound when I would hook up little speakers to my home receiver, and turned up the volume really loud.... (I was a kid.. and would do this just to blow speakers) EDIT: Oh and all wire connections are made securely with speaker terminal clips. I'm positive that none of these have slid off the speaker or terminal posts.

Antichrist
Ok I just pulled the sub. I hear scratching when I push the cone, but I didn't yesterday. I also checked the voice coil resistance with my DMM, and there is no reading. The sub is dead. :-/

Antichrist
RIP SUB im sorry for you Ah no biggie... I'm thinking it could have been a factory defect or something. And I believe I didn't hear scratching yesterday because the voice coil was still hot? The middle of the cone felt warm when I pushed on it.. I don't know much about blown subs, In 13 years of installing car audio for myself, friends, family, girlfriend, etc... I have never blown a sub. NEVER! I did blow 2 amps once... I wired a DVC sub in parrallel, then bridged the amp The first amp was an Orion, and took several months to die. The next amp was a cheap one.. Splash? Or some crap brand. It died in just a few minutes. But no big deal. I've contacted Power Acoustik, but I will NOT pay $15 to have them fix/replace a sub that dies in 4 days with half power. I can assure you, someone will be getting screwed over because of this bad sub... and it's not going to be me.
