abnerdog Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 My first humming bird of the year has just shown up. Hard to believe that those little birds migrate so far. Later on in the summer they will actually feed from the feeder as I am bringing it back out from refilling it. Quote
Corey Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 you should try to get a picture of them while they feed Quote
abnerdog Posted April 21, 2011 Author Posted April 21, 2011 when they get use to me they come right up to my face. I think my nikon might scare them but my Iphone might be ok. I am going to try that this year. Quote

HannahG Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 idk, I looked them up to see if any lived near me, it says they do but I've never seen them. And they are in the "Aves" class.. Whatever that means Quote
abnerdog Posted April 21, 2011 Author Posted April 21, 2011 Hannah, buy a feeder about, $10 at any pet or home improvement store. Make a mixture of 1 part sugar to 4 parts water and hang the feeder outside where you can see it. I also have one outside of the window where my computer sits. It may take a while but they will find it. When the wheather gets hot, change the sugar water twice a week. put extra sugar water in you fridge. You will be amazed at how aggressive they are. Quote
abnerdog Posted April 22, 2011 Author Posted April 22, 2011 I read some where that they burn 12,500 calories a day. Wow can you imagine being able to eat that much! Look out Golden Corral!!! Quote
abnerdog Posted April 23, 2011 Author Posted April 23, 2011 Great web cam, I put it in my favorites. My hummers are Ruby Throated Hummingbirds. Quote
