Around 20 hours deep in this little red Honda Daelim that it's owner wants made black + pink

on stripping it we found frame rotten and very badly welded, bought a good replacement frame and  a new swingingarm for like $110

 

sent all plastic parts to paint barbie pink at paintshop for another $100

 

cleaned and sanded and painted all other parts flat black three coats and clearcoat also

painted parts came back today, slapped some new neck and wheel bearings and cushion rubbers onto the chassis and began reassembly, wiring and engine first

tomorrow I would like to finish the wiring install, carry out headlight AC to DC conversion, install an LED headlight kit, install the fuel system, new plug, new oil, new air filter, fit chain, rear subframe and all body plastics and seat, also need to source some new elec parts locally

 

and need to remove front wheel and forks quickly too as I forgot the fit the dust caps to them today

 

would be nice to test ride and deliver by end of working week

I finished this little bike over the weekend gone; took a little longer than I would have likes; wiring was a birds nest of speaker wire and mismatched colours 

 

Customer is happy; it's exactly what she had requested

and basically done. waiting on a new white splashguard and a set of pink pillion footpegs to arrive

 

parts changed are: Frame Korea secondhand, Swingarm rear, spark plug, Fuel line, Fuel filter, Speedometer + cable, Handlebar switches/controls, Front turn signals, Side reflectors, Throttle cable, Steering neck bearings set, Front wheel bearings, Front and rear brake shoes, handgrips, rear wheel chain hub cush rubber, carb to airbox rubber boot, White splashguard, taillight assembly, Headlamp lens assembly, LED headlamp conversion kit, LED spots three way SPDT switch, Fuel tank cap, Fuel level sender, starter motor wiring harness, many bolts, nuts fasteners, primer, flat black and clearcoat spray paint and sandpaper/tape, front and rear axle spacers, Rear brake linkage, Wheel hub bearing seals, Paintshop for frame and pink panels,, fork seal dust caps, swingarm bolt and axles and probably some small stuff I won't remember until after I have made and issued the bill. . .

 

probably 30h work, billing for 18 hours plus parts + premium as customer is a mate

except for  the splashguard which isn't here yet I think we pretty much nailed it

I'm fully booked most of the time, need staff and a bigger work space really

 

this is the fifth of these that I have done for various people, in the past few years, one is classic red, one is baby blue, another psychedelic purple and a flat black one

 

I want to do a racing green next time

 

I prefer working on big bikes tbh, less fiddly and in general the newer the easier the bodywork and wiring tends to be, most of these little Korean scoots are 25/30 years old and have had much questionable work over the years before I see them
