Sa7a Jourtrepesian!

Wolfenstein is an old game, which has some limitations.
It doesn't accept other characters than "latin" alphabet. So arabic letters will not work.
Make sure that your name only includes latin letters.

this happens when the game cannot access  configuration or user files becuz of none ascii characters in the file path...

solutions.  move your  windows documents folder to a path that only uses ascii characters..

change the home path force et to save  in its own folder rather than documents  c...

check to see if u have excessive pak.3 with to many~~~~~~~~of these. or none asciii characters .

if your seeing this error while trying to connect to a server its possibly due to pak0 pak1 pak2 pak.3s missing in your installation. etl main folder....

also try to run as admin .........

This is not correct. This error happens when its tries to parse the name string. Non-ASCII characters are either in his player profile and or player name.

This was also fixed by the way via Discord.

When he created his profile and typed his name in, it populated in his etconfig and profile.dat and put a special character behind his name. Erasing that character and saving was the fix.

Yes, ET only uses 7-bit "regular ASCII", which includes all English characters but is missing text characters common to some European languages.

OOPS!  I forgot about the 'control characters' at the lower end of the ASCII table.  😄

In the ASCII character set, characters with decimal values ranging from 32 to 127 are known as the printable characters. These include the space character (ASCII 32), various punctuation marks, digits (0-9), uppercase letters (A-Z), and lowercase letters (a-z). The printable characters represent the most commonly used characters in English text and can be displayed on screen or printed on paper.

Some of the extended ASCII chars   (ET will "choke" on these 😄 )

Quote

ASCII code 128 = Ç ( Majuscule C-cedilla )
ASCII code 129 = ü ( letter u with umlaut or diaeresis , u-umlaut )
ASCII code 130 = é ( letter e with acute accent or e-acute )
ASCII code 131 = â ( letter a with circumflex accent or a-circumflex )
ASCII code 132 = ä ( letter a with umlaut or diaeresis , a-umlaut )
ASCII code 133 = à ( letter a with grave accent )
ASCII code 134 = å ( letter a with a ring )
ASCII code 135 = ç ( Minuscule c-cedilla )
ASCII code 136 = ê ( letter e with circumflex accent or e-circumflex )

I am tempted to experiment with adding an " é " to my name in a config file, just to see what chaos I can create in my ET system. 😄  😵
