soo i got new pc and was wondering if any1 could tune me some cfg as i lost my old and struggling to make new one.

  • CPU: Model + speed of the cpu --> AMD RYZEN 5 5500, 3600MHZ
  • RAM: How much memory on your PC or Laptop --> 16GB
  • Graphic Card: Model --> NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 5050
  • Monitor: 27 inches, 1920x1080 60hz
  • Internet connexion and speed: modem
  • Game graphics:  rather performance over graphics
  • What resolution you play with:1920x1080 
  • dont want bobyaws n bobrolls etc in the cfg, ill make my sens and fovs/binds myself. Thanks in advance!

Would that work ? Also if you notice anything you want to change, feel free to do it. I personally edited the original picmip I use (so 0) to picmip 3 in order to match your personnal preference and I recreated your name with the tags and colors.

ill see at somepoint, still figuring last changes on my own cfg if i manage save it but if not im going to try whatever i get suggested

@Armagedonyx 's cfg is fairly solid a few things I would change within his config it's self would be the following 

 

cg_autoaction 0 to 1 (to record all games recommended for admins)
cg_tracers 1 to 3 (1 shows all bullet tracers, 3 only shows enemy's tracers)
cl_timenude -15 (helps compensate higher ping, highly suggested if playing on a server not in your country)
com_maxfps 125 or 76 (really just a pref, but 200 is unnecessarily high, I enjoy 76 and 71 with pistol. But it's not a huge impact)
r_depthbits 24 to 16 (16 gives an FPS increase over 24 with the same visual effect)
r_displayrefresh (should match monitor refresh rate)
r_lodcurveerror 0 (0 works best for FPS, all lodcurveerrror does is measure the falloff of the curve of objects at a distance, really not needed in such a blocky undetailed game 😄 ) 
r_mapoverbrightbits 3 (making overbright bits 0 and mapoverbrightbits 3 replaces any needs for gamma and intensity, this is also just a user preference)
r_subdivisions 999 (similar to lodcurveerror, this just renders the geometry of complex shapes. lowering value increases visual, but again ET such a blocky game its not needed. So 999 works nice)

I will test a few of your recommendations. For me, overbrightbits and mapoverbrightbits is okay, I don't really need to change that. For FPS, I go with @HarryAimpotter's recommandation because, it is better to have as much FPS as possible to avoid frame loss. I used to go with 250 but he told me 200 is better for my monitor, you can ask him if you're curious, cuz I don't remember everything he told me about this. I'm not so much of a CFG expert, as my knowledge mainly comes from him. Actually, I changed a few things here and there but most of what you see, is Aimpotter's settings. Now for tracers, I honestly think at 1 it's better because it prevents FPS loss and I only really need to focus on enemies shooting angles, why those from my team as well (is it for demo reviewing to say who shoots who in case I need to make cheater reports ?) ?

Meh, not the ideal way of looking at it imo. 

Each is to their own on FPS. 

 

But I will say, it has been known that 76, 126, and 333, have been known to be "sweet spots" for FPS dating back to Quake 3 Arena. 

 

I will also point out that the "best" FPS is the "highest" you can handle at a steady rate even in the heaviest of moments during game. 

 

That being said, your FPS does also have a small handle with the recoil as well. For example: 71 FPS = nearly 0 recoil with pistol. ;)

I get what your saying when it comes to demo's / cheater reports etc. But IMO that is why it's also important to keep the bloodpuff enabled too. That way during a slow-mo inspection on a demo if you see a puff of blood with no tracer = friendly shot. 

 

Tracers 3 is also better for FPS stability than 1 as well.

I get what your saying when it comes to demo's / cheater reports etc. But IMO that is why it's also important to keep the bloodpuff enabled too. That way during a slow-mo inspection on a demo if you see a puff of blood with no tracer = friendly shot. 

 

Tracers 3 is also better for FPS stability than 1 as well. 

Okay I already said this to someone, that I'm blind asf. I've mistaken tracers 1 with 3 and my settings is on 1... 😅

Yeah so it's what I meant, I want to see enemies tracers only to avoid FPS loss and to locate their position. 

 

For the FPS part, I'm using 200 on all of my weapon banks except for slot 2 where I'm using 71 to have less recoil like you stated.

 

I could try as well 333 and 125 but that depends on what my monitor can handle.

That is also true. 71 fps makes sense using with pistols, it reduces recoil. I use 71 fps only when sniping. The downside is that lower FPS makes tracking moving objects harder. So its like win some-loose some. But for general gunfights, tracking, etc you want as high stable fps as possible.

That is exactly what @Armagedonyx said. You want the highest STABLE fps that your system can handle. But if you have high ping (100+ ms), increasing FPS will cause "connection interrupted" problems. Because your ET client will send more data to server. For example, in jay1 server, 250 fps gives me "connection interrupted" once after every 5 seconds or so, with 333 fps, the game is unpayable because on the netlag. In EU servers I can use up to 500 fps without any issues.

So in jay1 I have hardcapped my fps with GPU driver to 240 fps (no netlag and this matches my monitor hz). To avoid  screen tearing, and make game as smooths as possible, ideally you want to match your game fps to your monitor hz, or some kind of fraction of it. 60 ,120 or 480 fps for 240 hz monitor.  250 fps for 240 hz monitor is  also close enough and so is 200 fps for 240 hz monitor (ofc 240 fps would be better).

This is also mod specific but according to my testing in jaymod cg_tracers is 1/0 command. Meaning ON for everybody or OFF for everybody.

It seems like having map a little darker, makes models more visible. Interesting, I might try the 4th setting from that video as currently mine is closest to the 3rd one.

Ok, so the question that @Shoresy wants me to elaborate is whether limiting your fps (to 125 or 76) is just a preference or are there actual benefits of using higher fps (200 fps for example).

Short answer is: more FPS is (almost always) better.

Here are the reasons:

Using higher fps in online shooter games gives both performance and competitive advantages.

Higher fps makes motion look much smoother and enemy movement appears more consistent. You get more visual updates per second.

Higher fps reduces input latency (the delay between moving your mouse and seeing it happen on screen). So even if your monitor works at 60 hz for example it is still better to use 240 fps @ 60 hz than 76 fps @  60 hz.

That is the reason why ET pros all use 500 fps (the would probably use 1000 fps, if their PC-s could handle it). Also CS pros play with uncapped fps.

So your fps can never be "unnecessarily high". Just use the highest setting your PC and internet connection can handle. Limiting your fps to lower values will put you to serious disadvantage. In ET context limiting your fps only makes sense while sniping or perhaps using pistols. And even then I would argue that with pistols, the benefits of smoother tracking outweigh the benefits of reduced recoil.

yeah i find using 125fps on 60hz good, using lower ones just feels off to me

In fact higher fps isn't "just a preference". It's like saying that having a faster car in nascar race is "just a preference".
