Lorenzo Battistutta Posted November 3, 2025 Posted November 3, 2025 (edited) Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory Legacy (ETL) Performance Benchmark Dell Precision 3551: Max Quality vs. Max Performance (Final Test) This report quantifies the difference in Average FPS between two extreme configuration files (Max Quality and Max Performance) using a short, high-stress demo (1.2 MB). I. System Specifications (Test Hardware) Model: Dell Precision 3551 OS: Microsoft Windows 11 Pro, Version 10.0.26100 Driver: NVIDIA RTX Enterprise - 581.42 CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10850H CPU @ 2.70GHz GPU: NVIDIA Quadro P620 RAM: 16.0 GB Storage: SSD - 476.9 GB / HDD - 465.8 GB Game: Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory Legacy (ETL) Test Demo Size: 1.2 MB Test Tool: /timedemo ------------------------------------------------- II. Benchmark Results: Max Performance Configuration (CFG: performance.cfg) Average FPS: 162.71 Minimum FPS: 31.25 Maximum FPS: 500.00 99th Percentile Min: 90.91 FPS Time Elapsed: 21.87 sec Total Frames: 3558 ------------------------------------------------- III. Benchmark Results: Max Quality Configuration (CFG: quality.cfg) Average FPS: 144.75 Minimum FPS: 30.30 Maximum FPS: 500.00 99th Percentile Min: 83.33 FPS Time Elapsed: 24.58 sec Total Frames: 3558 ------------------------------------------------- IV. Performance Analysis FPS Gain (Performance over Quality): 17.96 FPS Percentage Increase: 12.4% Conclusion: On high-end modern hardware like the Quadro P620, the performance cost of running Max Quality is negligible. Users can enjoy maximum graphics without a competitive disadvantage. ------------------------------------------------- Call to Action: Replicate This Benchmark We encourage any user to replicate this benchmark on their own system to expand our data set. To participate, please follow these steps: 1. **Copy the CFG files:** Paste the Max Performance and Max Quality configurations into your game's directory. 2. **Execute the Test:** * Open your console (`~`). * Type `/exec performance.cfg` (or `/exec quality.cfg`). * Type `/timedemo 1` in the console. * Go to the **Replays** section of the Main Menu and click on the **Benchmark Demo** file you used (or one you recorded yourself). 3. **Post Your Results:** After the test finishes, pull down the console, take a **screenshot of the Benchmark results**, and post it here (one for the Max Performance test and one for the Max Quality test). This exchange of information will be immensely useful for new and inexperienced users looking to optimize their game. A warm greeting to all, [Ladykaka77] Map kerkyra These 2 cfgs are really complete for doing a full test, it would be nice to have the time to be able to do the 2 tests on each map played on the FA servers. HarryAimpotter Posted November 3, 2025 Posted November 3, 2025 Hello Thank you for your effort. I can see that you have ran the timedemo in ETLegacy client, but in your config there are a lot of commands, that are 2.60b specific and do not exist in ETlegacy. For example: seta r_ext_NV_fog_dist "0" seta r_nv_fogdist_mode "GL_EYE_RADIAL_NV" seta r_ati_fsaa_samples "0" seta r_smp seta r_vertexLight r_lowMemTextureSize r_picmip2 etc... Just type these in your Legacy client and press tab, to see if the engine recognizes the command. And few pointers more: seta r_texturemode "GL_NEAREST" is the lowest/fastest textrure mode (not GL_LINEAR) You should add: s_mixPreStep "0.02" s_mixahead "0.06" cg_descriptiveText "0" r_fastsky 1 seta cg_impactparticles "0" seta cg_showblood "0" seta cg_markTime "0" seta cg_bloodDamageBlend "0" seta cg_bloodFlash "0" seta cg_bloodFlashTime "0" seta cg_bloodTime "0" seta cg_atmosphericEffects "0" 1 1 Quote

So, these can be removed from an ETL CFG, is what you're saying?? What do you mean by etc?? What else can go from a 2.60b to ETL CFG? And my texture mnode reads seta ui_r_texturemode "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_NEAREST" Also, I have/had seta s_mixahead "0.05" s_mixahead "0.02" seta cg_impactparticles "1" seta cg_marktime "2000" Edited November 3, 2025 by -=HipKat=- Quote

What else can go from a 2.60b to ETL CFG? Yes, all the commands I listed can be removed from Legacy cfg, because they dont exist in legacy client/engine. I put etc.. because there are probably more commands that can be removed, I did just a quick scan through his cfg. All you need to do is type the beginning of the command in legacy console and press tab, and you will see what command is supported and what is not. 45 minutes ago, -=HipKat=- said: cg_impactparticles "1" I havn't tested it very thoroughly, but If you have cg_wolfparticles 0, it wont have any affect. Cg_wolfparticles controls if damaged vehicles emit smoke or not. 45 minutes ago, -=HipKat=- said: seta cg_marktime "2000" I use 500 myself. Its sets the time (in ms) for how long impact markers (bullet holes, mortar marks) are visible. Setting it anything besides "0" will reduce your fps a little, but it can also be useful info. Like you will see where mortar shells have landed, so you know to avoid that place. Just test it out, but I think 2000 is a bit too long, with no real benefit. 45 minutes ago, -=HipKat=- said: seta s_mixahead "0.05" s_mixahead "0.02" This is exact same command, just delete 0.05 line. 45 minutes ago, -=HipKat=- said: And my texture mnode reads seta ui_r_texturemode "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_NEAREST" This only sets the texturemode of your user interface (game menus, etc) and not the game graphics itself. For game graphics you need to use r_texturemode. I myself use the highest quality (GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR) and medium (GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_NEAREST) is also ok. I do not however recommend using the lowest value (GL_LINEAR). Even tho, you will get marginal fps boost, but believe it or not, it will make the foliage thicker. I prefer the highest graphics, also. I play to enjoy the game, not be some super scrim player But dude, a CFG has hundreds of lines. I haven't created a complex cfg as if I were going to use it for playing. If you want to see mine and you're interested, I can attach it to you. lenovo.cfg Edited November 4, 2025 by Lorenzo Battistutta Quote
