cant connect

so a few days ago I was told to put tags on so I added it to my cfg that i have had for years and years, changed nothing else. now I cant get into beg2 or hc, I can get to silent.

when I open et I click on the beg 2 or hc icon on the right just like i always have once again for years and the counter just keeps rolling like it would if the server is full but its not.

change ur name back to the way it was before . then change it in game  /name"yourname" 

 

i am gonna guess u didnt  do ur name correctly now it hangs . you could just double check  how it is in your cfg. probably just  an error . in typing it happens!

Has anyone tried connecting to a silent server with a 'blank' name?  I think that Jaymod would reject that, not sure about the other mods.

@stalker the Jay#1 records show you there with your W:ET and normal IP, with the name "Stalker", about 6 hours ago.

Yes, if you use the "name editor" on Jay#1 and do not leave at least one character in the edit-line, then that "blank name" will cause the server to kick you.  I remember that, now. 😄

 

I tried several blank, blank-char and extended-ASCII chars as names on Beg#2 in a testName.cfg file while connected to server.

The above // lines are notes in my nameBlank.cfg as I went along.  😄 

 

1. If I change to a "" name while on the server= Kicked 

2. after I load silent mod, change name to "" and then connect to server,  = not allowed to connect

3. change to blank name in etmain, then connect to beg#2, = not allowed to connect

 

ALL of them get the Error "Missing name field in userinfo" and I am not allowed to connect to the server. 

 

 

 

BTW, @stalker I found your FA-tagged-name on HardCore, with your profile S:ET, but with a level 4.  I offline set you there to 11.  Try connecting there and see what happens.  You would have been "kicked for tags' when you showed up with a level 4 there.  😄 

 

You should look into your Silent-mod/ profile / profile name / etconfig.cfg for

 

"cg_currentSelectedPlayerName"  (for me it is "" ... is that from a blank-name test, or is that normal?

 

"seta cg_selectedPlayerName" = my redbaird name, which I changed back to after my name experiments.

 

"seta name " shows my redbaird name, too 😄which I changed back to after my name experiments.

 

(a safer way to do it is to copy & paste that file and examine the copy instead of the original)

 

Stalker you may need to post your etconfig file here in the Private Clan forums, for experts to look at.   

 

OR it could be something very simple that seems to "fix itself" the next time you try to join Beg#2  😄

i went back to my cfg with out the tags, its the same thing, i can get to most servers but not beg2,hc,or the et pro servers all others i can and it says im stalker

Hi there, 

i assume you're using ETLegacy client 32 bit, if not this is the better version of the client to play the game

(if you're using the old 2.60b client than all the files will be under C:\Program Files (x86)\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\.... )

 

In the Documents folder (in windows) there should be an ETLegacy folder containing all the needed for the game

inside this folder thare are the mod folders (legacy , nq , silent etc..) 

inside each of these there are the "profiles" folder" then the single profile and finally the etconfig.cfg 

 

Each of these etconfig.cfg files are safe to delete if you are using a separate config to loadup when you start the game

If not using a separate config file to load up then don't delete them .

 

Check each of those etconfig.cfg and look for typos in the "name" cvar,

the correct spell is like this:
seta name "^0=F^/|^wA=Lar^2r^hY^7"

(the double quote is needed at the begining and end of the name , not allowed in the middle)

 

Since the only change you made is in the name i point the finger to some typo in some cfg file that gets loaded

Using the FA server menu?  

 

Those 3 Silent-mod servers are on two different machines on two different continents.   

 

This should not work, but you can try checking your Silent folder for *.tmp files and remove them.  NQ#1 had that problem with some players a few years ago,   I don't think that HC and Beg#2 would try to download the same "corrupted" file at the same time, but NQ had some 'strange effects' with that problem.

Can you try one more thing Stalker. 

Start ET go profiles and check what profile u have. then just do what u always do to connect to beg2, when awaiting connection start press ESC and check ur profile in menu is it same or its nothing there ?

Open game, do not exec config, open console and type /name stalker, and /cg_selectedplayername stalker.

 

Go to the menu and double click on and load silent mod, do not exec config, open console and type /name stalker, and /cg_selectedplayername stalker.

 

Still in the console and in silent mod type /name and hit enter, check what it says, then type /cg_selectedplayername and hit enter, check what it says. They should both say "stalker" at this point, confirm this.

 

Now connect to FA hardcore or Beginners 2 and see what happens.

 

After you connect, or if you can't connect, again check both /cg_name (hit enter) and /cg_selectedplayername (enter) and confirm the names.

 

If this works, do this with any mod you're having trouble with.

 

 

 

If this issue continues, let one of us onto your PC with teamviewer or something! Going through your ET directory and manually doing this is easier done than said.

do those mod  folders have the correct admin.id scan with the pk.3 cleaner  is there a key  for those mods? have u been playing else where and changing ur name . 

 

also could u maybe post ur configs for the mods u cant join.

If you do that, be sure to save the etkey file from your etmain folder and the silent.dat file from your silent folder to somewhere outside of your ET installation.

 

You will need to put them back into their respective folders after you reinstall and before you run ET again.

 

That will save your W:ET and S:ET GUIDs and the XP on the servers you have played on.
