Hi there, from the Netherlands : )

I could use some help in changing my graphics card. Right now i am working on an 'older' desktop. The game is playable but with the fastest options.

I am just wondering if there is a way to play with more graphics quality.

Therefore i want to change my Graphics Card (IGP)

My system right now :

//

Dell Optiplex 580 bios A05

Windows 10 Pro

AMD Athlon II X2 B22 2.8 Ghz

6.00 Gb RAM DDR 3

Ati Radeon  HD 4200 (IGP)

//

I am just wondering if there is a better graphics card which can be installed on this system and runs good.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Your setup is indeed quite old and it may not boost or help your performance with better graphics even if you install a proper gpu.

I googled that hd 4200 is integrated gpu and if you have free pci-e slot, you could install there proper gpu. Now the drivers is another thing then, as I used to have hd4870 and before hd4850 and gt 710, but there is no updates for those drivers anymore and neither for your gpu. I can tell you, gaming wasn't fun at all.

My advice is, get a new pc if you really want better graphics and overall better performance. That's what I did :)

but first check if your PSU can handle extra Watts

IMO best option is to get new/used PC, nowadays you can get good used PC cheap or build it from scratch - that's how I like to do it.

hi Djinn & welcome here ..

in my opinion only 1050OC could fit to your setup. It does not require any additional power connector, its power draw is rated at 75W maximum; on the other hand your PSU will probably have around 220/240W; that could still work, but whether it makes sense? Even a used gtx1050 will still cost around 70Euro. Better save money and replace your setup completely, as has already been mentioned.

Currently I also recommend that you save money by doing a general upgrade to a DDR4 system with 32GB of memory,

perhaps by inserting a smooth RTX 3060 or even a smooth RTX 4060 and to be on the safe side a quality power supply with at least 750w

Heyo mate. Welcome!

Your configuration is quite old unfortunally.

New gpu doesnt help you.

Your cpu will be the main weakest point the cpu will not have time and resources to process information from the video processor gpu.

As far as i remember, your motherboard based with AM3 socket.

And if u wanna to save money and save your main configuration, you should buy phenom II X6, its based on AM3 socket and its one of the most powerfull cpu on AM3. But remember!!! AM3 CPUs dont have SSE 4.1 and 4.2 support, only SSE4.a. Really old cfgs.

But with that CPU, u can use 2060, or 2080, or 3050 (dont know anything about this gpu, i had 2060 previously) without any performance loss.

Im using phenom II x6 1055t 125W with RX6500XT, 32gb ram in my second PC, quite enough for me, but i have some troubles with games relized after 2017 (sse4.1,sse4.2 needed) , but its ok, intel SDE solved all my problems.

Before looking Phenom, u have to be sure that your motherboard suppots it. (Not all motherboards support this processor, ofc u can upgrade your bios, but its difficult, even for me)

Or u need new pc with new cpu and motherboard

Sooo, let it be my friend, good luck!

Hey,

what is your budget range? As a fellow Dutchman I can help you check what's on the market right now. For less than 700e you can buy complete ddr4/b550 systems that can help you game like it's 202x instead of 200x ;)

i would save money and build a new pc .  if u want to use what u have an not build new pc this video may help!  i would upgrade processor to phenom2  an  u will most def need diff psu . the ones dell used in those  are weak .  u will be limited on space . for ur gpu looks like a rx 6600xt powercolor amd hellhoud radeon will just barley fit..   your ram speed will limit ur upgrade ability. its ddr3 . if its a micro case skip even trying  those things are to small. u will also need a 8 pin to 24 pin connector dell uses a 8 pin connector for mother board power. dells really suck to upgrade. so good luck . also if u do go for it an its not a mini case. ur side door locks will limit your psu space . sum wont fit unless u take out the spring loaded side lock.hope this helps!

Agree with others. There's some capable 4060 gtx machines for less than $700 which will play just about anything with lower settings. I don't know if the eBay auctions or new egg ships to Europe but check slickdeals.net for some prebuilt deals (search desktop).

First of all thanks for all the quick reply's.

After reading all the above i will not upgrade my gpu in my current setup. I will try and search for a newer used desktop that will do the job for me.

The only reason to game on a pc is because of  Enemy Territory. I will not play any other games.

Thanks for the kind support and suggestions.

I will keep you posted when i find a newer 'used' desktop.

Maybe a gaming laptop could also be an option.

This game is still to good to play only on lowest settings.. :)

intel core i5

gpu i would go for nvidia gtx 1650 (a lil bit more and u can buy geforce rtx 3050)

et doesnt even need 1gb memory.. 8gb would be more than enough

Mainboard

as for mainboard i dont really know what to recommend, just look for something that can handle the parts u want 😄

in my opinion 350-500$ pc would be enough if you play only et.
