From the WinMTR output, I noticed that there is definitely some packet loss and routing issues. Can you run the WinMTR test a few more times during different times of the day (morning, afternoon, evening) and let us know if the packet loss continues? This will help us determine if it is some peak time congestion or something else. Since you have not experienced this issue on other servers, it could possibly be a route-specific issue between your location and the server. If you are still having the same issues, you could try connecting to a North America VPN server and see if that helps at all. Keep us posted 1 Quote

boki Posted October 23 Author Posted October 23 I took a couple of metering for different servers. As you can see, only the jay1 server is losing packets. I am not the only one complaining about the issue. But, I cannot but ask myself, why would these servers drop ICMP packets anyway, unless it cannot handle the traffic volume? This is now going for about a month and just not sure how to get to a solution. However, since I am not a Cogent customer, I could not pursue this further and argue about it. Anyone having an idea how to make Cogent to do something about it? Maybe running a more sophisticated test and then present more representative data? Quote
boki Posted December 3 Author Posted December 3 Sad to report that these issues appear only on jay1 and my connection or nodes along the way have nothing to do with it. Same route is used by some other servers and I do not have any lags there. So far issues are intermittent, and beside heavy lag, sometimes it also takes forever to connect to the server. Usually, if the time to connect is long, the lag is also there. My ping goes from the usual 120 average to 190 or higher. The issue is happening right now. As this is my favorite server, the issue is really frustrating. Anyone had this issue before? Or knows what could be possible be the issue? 1 Quote

Posted December 4 Posted December 4 (edited) My ping is already normally quite high (200-210) but in the last few weeks I've been getting 230-240 ping whenever I connect and becomes pretty unstable and jumps around a lot. boki Posted December 5 Author Posted December 5 @daredevil Just letting you know - the node 178.32.135.155 (vl1333.was1-vin1-g2-nc5.wa.us) has now my usual average ping (cca 120ms) and my lagometer looking pretty normal with 19-20 snaps. So far, this is the best candidate to troubleshoot. I am happy to provide any data to help them with troubleshooting. It seems that, whatever they have in front of the Jay1 server node itself, is slowing down the server traffic for some players. I assume there is a proxy (load balancer) one step ahead of it, so it does not affect all players (best guess, as I do not have any insight into their infrastructure). With PingPlotter it is much easier to see these details, thank you for suggesting using it. Quote
