Need to get a new laptop. All my computer techy geeky friends keep telling me to spend a little more to get a Macbook

but I'm not convinced. Anyone have a Macbook that can give feedback? I don't mind spending more but want to make sure

it's worth it.

I got one last December for my wife and it blows, and of course 3 months after I bought it Apple released a new line, playing ET on it makes it really hot to touch after 10 minutes because of the unibody design which doesn't cool it down at all. All Icrap is just overpriced fad and unless you got money to burn should be avoided at all costs, there are far superior notebooks out there for same money.

That's what i say , my friend wanted to buy a macbook since all of his school mates told him that its the best bla bla bla, I told him that the main problem with apple products is that they're overpriced and they have a bad product quality.

He told me that i was just jealous (lol) then i told him all the technical issues, etc. and that he could get a great notebook with the same price on the internet. In the end he got a macbook and in one month his notebook didn't want to turn on and the charger wasn't working properly.

When he told me that, i just slapped him in the face and told him "I told you"

I disagree with the former comments lol my roomate has a macbook and its pretty sick, really what it comes down to IMO is what do you want to do with your laptop? If you want it just for playing games buy a windows laptop for less and it will be better for what you want. If you want to do media shit then get a macbook (or if you wanna watch alot of porn and not worry about viruses )

I don't want to start an endless discussion that will lead to nowhere but i always have this doubt on my head:

I've hear that a mac can't get viruses , but then why does people sells anti virus for mac?

It's like a vaccine for a disease that doesn't exists

Or maybe is it because the risk of infection is less than a pc?

correct me if im wrong

So your saying a macbook with firefox and no-script make for a virus free porn environment? Damn, all this time I've been using my MacBook for media creation and word processing.

The reason your paying such a premium on macbooks isn't because the hardware is better. Your basically paying in advance for any tech support you might need. Granted I've already stated the pros/cons I've seen with my macbookpro on another thread, but Apples cust. service is hands down the best I've ever dealt with on the rare occasions I've had to use it. One time it wasn't even for tech support, but rather UPS screwed up delivery of my ipod. I ended up with 2 ipods out of it.

Overall it boils down to what you need the laptop for as |3lessed stated. If your using it for basic school work, word processing, spreadsheets, games etc then save your money and buy a comparable PC. If your into music, making movies, but still need word processing, slide shows, spreadsheets etc and want less of a risk of a malicious program infecting your comp then a mac might be a better solution. Probably even more so if you have an old copy of Windows laying around since you can also use boot camp to dual boot Mac/Windows.

One of the things I've been very impressed with is how easy it is to setup calendars with multiple appointments for different people/genres, multiple email accounts and contacts and keeping them synced. Also it integrates into google calendar quite easily and if you use an iphone/ipod/ipod touch then having your schedule/contact list with you and updating it couldn't be easier. I haven't found a better solution on a Windows platform. If someone has suggestions then PM them to me.

If you plan on heavy gaming then be forewarned. Joedirt was correct about Macs getting hot. Even my older gen Core 2 Duo gets pretty warm to the touch when gaming. Apple sacrificed a good cooling system in favor of sleek lines and a compact chassis. I wouldn't game with it sitting on my lap..but since I usually don't do that I've never been bothered by it. If you do go mac...DO NOT buy their dumb mouse. Just get a regular, cheap 2-3 button laptop mouse(or gaming mouse if you want) so you can still right click. With the 3 button mouse use I have the third button set up to minimize all windows to the desktop like icons so I can select w/e other program I have in the background since I generally have several things opened at once.

Overall mark me down as a happy Apple customer. Just remember what your needs are first.

Just to clarify, I'm not going to be using the laptop for gaming or anything that would require a really nice sound card/graphics card.

I'm just looking for a high quality laptop where I can do some basic media stuff (movies, music) and just some work stuff (spreadsheets,

word processing, scheduling). I bought a Dell and it fried out on me after 2 years so I'm just wanting to make sure that I get something that

will be high quality, perform flawlessly, and be worth the bang for the buck
