Hallo!

So, I have been playing on this server a few weeks now, and something odd that I noticed was that all the good aimers ping around 150-200. Ofc it could be a coincidence, but I started looking each game at the highest fragger(with mp40) and its pretty much always people with a ping around 175ish. I tried to look into it online a bit and read something about the anti lag measures, and one post said that a high ping is more a disadvantage than an advantage, but it was a fairly old post. Basically it said the disadvantage comes because if you have 10ms ping, you are exactly where the server thinks you are, but someone with a 200ms ping is not. Does anyone know any of the technical aspects of this and what advantages/disadvantages are involved?

Mate...its all about your skills. Ping, cfg and things like that can be advantage but not determinative factor. Noone will aim in your place :)

i don't know,i saw that too and to be honest i asked my self.I can barely play on a server with pb on,because i lag so much, its imposible for me to play..so i always asked how they can do that? :confused

You become used to lag eventually, and if you can figure out your computer and connection, sometimes you can basically eliminate all the worries. For example, when I first joined an Australian server, it was so weird, because when I was using a sniper or anything, i would instantly hear a hit.

Probably more than you wanted to know, though it's about ETPro's antilag. There's good discussion in the comments as well. In short: high pingers are harder to hit, but they also have a harder time hitting people – however, most public mods have such huge hitboxes that it doesn't have as large an effect as it does in ETPro (at least in my experience).

I have played with pings ranging from 0 (lan, not useless fake timenudged ping) to 300, and I can tell you that the higher the ping, the hard it is to kill enemies (if they are good). At least on etpro that is 100% true. After all, you start shooting after they do, so you don't need to be a rocket scientist to guess it's easier if your ping is low. And also when a player hits you, it takes more time for you to see it, but on the server the bullet has already 'pushed' you, so if your ping is high you can think you are shooting from a different position than your real one because of the prediction errors. Antilag does not move you in the past but only your enemies, the server takes for granted that you will have reached the position your client predicted.

In jaymod I noticed it less, but I don't know it is mod-related, maybe it's just the kind of players you meet and the gameplay, plus the xpsave. In particular I have played on fa servers from Europe too, and I wasn't any better than I am now with low ping. And not worse, either. In jaymod fights are longer (xp, maybe adrenaline) and movement is more important (imho worse antilag, servers with increased speeds), so the advantage of shooting first is reduced and a good player with a high ping can play without problems, provided that the ping is steady.

High ping is a handicap but in many cases it's not a big one. It is never an advantage per se, only that some people with high ping have also an unsteady ping, which would make their movements less smooth and harder to follow. But low pingers can have that too.

'high pingers are harder to hit' roflmao...

I strongly suggest you not to read any 'technical' discussions made by players. Generally they are 99% cr@p, with some exceptions. Players are players, they can be good or bad but they are still players. Modders are modders and they know better how the game works.

I am just remembering here, but afaik with stock settings jaymod hitboxes are the same size as etpro ones. etpub hitboxes are even smaller (same head, but the bodybox is less tall).

But since beginners don't move well and they don't hit you well, especially with xpsave and reduced spread it's less hard than hitting someone good on etpro, when you have level 0 light weapons. Also from my personal experience (I don't know the technical reason, maybe a poorer antilag/antiwarp, and less restrictions on netsettings) on jaymod movement/lag alone could make you win a fight sometimes, on etpro if you don't give that 1st headshot you are already dead.Nobody can 'own' you with 30 accuracy there, or anyway an accuracy lower than yours.

Well, I have to admit, I went and checked out the Jaymod hitboxes again, and you're right. (Interesting side note here, for those who want to know what the etmain/etpro hitboxes look like). Thanks for the informative post. :)
