The BBC has released - and pulled - the debut trailer for its Grand Theft Auto drama, The Gamechangers. As is the Internet's way, it's still available to watch. In the trailer we see Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe as Rockstar chief creative Sam Houser, and Bill Paxton as anti-video game lawyer Jack Thompson. At one point, Radcliffe's Houser says: "We're gonna create the first truly adaptable hero." The BBC describes Gamechangers as a "factual drama". The 90-minute film goes behind the scenes of Grand Theft Auto circa 2002, to tell the story of a three-year period "of intense controversy in the history of this iconic game's development". The BBC's talking about Rockstar's scrap with Thompson, "a self-styled crusader for American morality" who was "determined to do whatever he can to stop the relentless rise of the game and its influence on children". "The Gamechangers tells the story of how British game designers pushed boundaries into uncharted territory, of how those fighting GTA became consumed by a battle which overwhelmed their lives, and how the subsequent fallout threatened to bring down leading players on both sides," reads the official blurb. The BBC says the drama is intended for an adult audience and has not been authorised by Rockstar. Instead, it says, it's based on court documents and interviews with people involved with the real events. Back in May, Rockstar launched legal action against the BBC in response to The Gamechangers (at the time Rockstar called it "Game Changer"). The developer was attempting to disrupt the drama's release, alleging trademark infringement. Rockstar (via parent company Take-Two) claimed it had reached an impasse with the BBC over the project, which was first announced back in March. "While holders of the trademarks referenced in the film title and its promotion, Rockstar Games has had no involvement with this project," Rockstar said. "Our goal is to ensure that our trademarks are not misused in the BBC's pursuit of an unofficial depiction of purported events related to Rockstar Games. "We have attempted multiple times to resolve this matter with the BBC without any meaningful resolution. It is our obligation to protect our intellectual property and unfortunately in this case litigation was necessary." So, while I was playing GTA4 yesterday, driving on the sidewalk, running over hookers, a thought occured... Does Grand Theft Auto cause violence in the real world? Of course, I already have Intermittent Explosive Disorder, so there isn't much to make me more violent. But what do you guys think? I've been playing GTA for awhile and I don't think it's rubbed off on me any, I keep it all in the game. Good news, urban misanthropy fans: Rockstar have offered a few more details on the PC (and PS4/Xbone) version of Grand Theft Auto V, and put out a new trailer showing it off. Bad news: they’ve also announced a delay for the PC edition. Nobody loves us waaaaaaaaaaaaah. While the Next Jennifer console versions of the open world driving/murder/tennis/etc sim will arrive on 18th November this year, the PC take on it won’t be with us until January 27, 2015. 2015 is not the same year as 2014! Not fair! No reason for the delay has been given as yet. Promised for this overhaul of the 360/PS3 title are: - New activities; - New weapons; - New vehicles; - Additional wildlife; - Denser traffic; - New foliage system; - Enhanced damage and weather effects, and much more. That “much more” includes more songs on the radio stations, ‘classic’ vehicles from older GTAs and, once again, “more”. MMOish multiplayer mode GTA Online, meanwhile, will support up to 30 players ‘on PS4 and Xbox One’, and the omission of PC there (it’s specifically namechecked for other features in this here press release) seems deliberate. Is there any merit in speculating that the PC version will support more players? That might take the sting out of the delay, at least. I suspect we won’t find out quite what’s going on in PC-land specifically until the marketing hammer hits again at that start of next year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ykju1LoAyw Rockstar has announced a spring release on the Xbox360 and the PS3 The previous episode - GTA IV came out on the 2nd of April 2008 on the Xbox360 and PS3 and didn't actually come out on windows until December the 3rd, 2008. So I'd guess it would be something similiar with an April 2013 release on the consoles and an early December 2013 release for the pc users - though this is just speculation. I suspect it will be released earlier to pc users as the average computer is much better than in 2008 so they will be losing more potential customers the longer they hold it out. Rockstar confirms Grand Theft Auto V is coming after at least two years in development Rockstar has officially announced Grand Theft Auto V. The latest title in the multimillion-selling crime adventure series has no official release date as yet, but the publisher is promising a teaser trailer on 2 November. No console platforms have been mentioned either, leading to speculation that GTA 5 may not arrive until the next generation of Xbox and PlayStation machines. However, the game is almost certain to have been in development for at least two years, meaning a late 2012 release is not out of the question. The Grand Theft Auto series has sold 115m units since the first title arrived in 1997, making it one of the biggest game franchises in the world. The last instalment, Grand Theft Auto IV, has alone shipped more than 22m units since its launch in 2008. For the last year, gaming news sites have been speculating wildly over the possible setting for GTA V. In March, Rockstar's parent company Take-Two held acting auditions for an unnamed project, the casting call for which provided details for a selection of characters, including mobsters, movie agents and wannabe starlets – suggesting to sites such as Kotaku, a possible Hollywood setting for GTA V, although Rockstar did not comment on the casting session or on the nature of the project. Certainly, the 2004 release, GTA: San Andreas featured an area named Vineland, heavily modelled on Hollywood.
