  1. Star Wars: Andor, new series, 31 Aug 2022 on Disney+
  2. (This article and it's contents are copyright 2016 Cole Delbyck, The Huffington Post. I claim no rights to the contents below) Original link here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/kenny-baker-dead-dies-star-wars_us_57af460ae4b007c36e4efbb4 Kenny Baker, who brought R2-D2 to life in six “Star Wars” films over almost four decades has died after battling a long illness, his agent has confirmed. He was less than two weeks away from his 82nd birthday, according to Baker’s website. His body was discovered on Saturday morning by a nephew, who had been looking after him, said his agent, Johnny Mans. The 3-foot-8-inch actor secured his big break in the first installment of the space saga in 1977 after performing in circus and cabaret shows around England. Baker would go on to play the world’s most personable droid in the “Star Wars” sequels and prequels, as well as consulting on 2015’s “The Force Awakens.” Although he was unable to attend the film’s Los Angeles premiere due to his illness, he did make an appearance at its European premiere in a wheelchair, posing with Stormtroopers on the red carpet. Apart from the “Star Wars” franchise, Baker also appeared in a variety of popular films throughout the 1980s, including “Flash Gordon,” “Time Bandits” and “Labyrinth.” “Kenny was truly a great friend, one of the nicest guys you could ever wish to meet and a fabulous and talented performer,” said Mans. “My wife and family will miss him terribly, and I will never forget the laughs we shared over the years. He was a one-off. There will never be another Kenny Baker.” Baker’s niece, Abigail Shield, told The Guardian that his death was sad, but expected, as his illness had worsened significantly in recent years. “He had problems with his lungs and was often in a wheelchair,” she said. “He was very poorly for a long time. He was asked to go out to LA for the new ‘Star Wars’ premiere but he was told he was too ill to travel. Luckily he did manage to meet George Lucas again when he came to Manchester.” Shield also notes that, because of his stature, Baker’s family didn’t expect him to survive after puberty, let alone make a name for himself in Hollywood. “He had a very long and fulfilled life,” she continued. “He brought lots of happiness to people and we’ll be celebrating the fact that he was well loved throughout the world. We’re all very proud of what he achieved in his lifetime.” Baker’s collaborators on “Star Wars” and others simply touched by his legacy rushed to pay tribute to the fallen actor on social media and beyond with heartfelt remembrances. His co-star Mark Hamill praised his determination and optimism, while director George Lucas described him as the “heart and soul of R2-D2.” ”Kenny Baker was a real gentleman as well as an incredible trooper who always worked hard under difficult circumstances,” Lucas wrote in a statement posted by New York Times reporter Dave Itzkoff. “A talented vaudevillian who could always made everybody laugh, Kenny was the heart and soul of R2-D2 and will be missed by all his fans and everyone who knew him.”
  3. Star Wars: The Force Awakens has become the fastest film to take $1bn (£674m) at the global box office. JJ Abrams' film achieved the feat in 12 days, beating the previous record of 13 days set by Jurassic World in June. [Picture removed because of its horrible quality] Star Wars also scored the biggest US Christmas Day box office takings in history with $49.3m (£33.2m). The film took $153.5m (£103.5m) in the US in its second weekend, bringing its total domestic haul to $544.6m (£367m). S:http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment_and_arts
  4. (sorry for the click-bait title...) "less is not more. More is more." As I'm sure most of you know, the new trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront dropped recently. I've never been a massive star wars fan, but star wars: Battlefront II ranks as one of my all-time favorite games; naturally I was excited when I heard that Dice, the brains behind the battlefield series, were working on a new installment in the battlefront series. They've made some of the best modern arcade-y military shooters and I was interested to see how they'd handle such a beloved franchise. But let's face facts. This game is going to suck. As I see it, there are 4 major issues that I've spotted based on the limited information we have: 1) no fleshed out single-player campaign. 2) only rebels and the empire. 3) 4 planets, two maps per planet. 4) NO f***ING SPACE BATTLES. 1) I never had multiplayer as a kid, back in the glory-days of the ps2. Naturally, I spent a lot of time in the campaign and the galactic domination mode where you controlled a capital-ship from one of the 4 major factions. For what it's worth, I really enjoyed the campaign of battlefront 2, which put you in the shoes of a clone-trooper who lives through nearly every major battle of the movie franchise. And I recall enjoying the campaign in the first battlefront as well, although I should admit most of the time I played the second installment instead of the 1st. So what does Dice decide to do? screw the campaign, what gamers want is co-op side missions. And what's worse, the developers said that they're intended to be rather short and replayed on higher difficulties later. That's bullshit-ese for "we didn't really try, so we'll just stick less stupid AI in the same maps and hopefully players won't care." FFS, Dice. It's Star Wars. The story's already written (on that note, f*** J.J. Abrams. Stop ruining everything, you overrated franchise killer). You don't even have to hire writers, just watch the f***ing movies and take notes. When the movies end, look down at your notes. THERE'S YOUR STORY. 2) to be honest, I don't care for the rebels. The empire is interesting, but I've always thought the droids were far in a way the coolest faction. Most gamers my age (18-25 regions; you know, battlefront 3's target audience...) grew up with the latter half of the movie franchise as our introduction to the series. I'm not here to argue about the merits of those installments in the franchise, but it seems stupid to not have clone wars involved. On top of that, having 4 factions and 2 wars gave the combat some variety. Sure, many if not all of the gameplay elements stayed the same from faction to faction but playing as the droids felt a lot different from playing as the rebels. Cutting that down to 2 factions reduces variety and means that players are going to get bored faster. 3) battlefront 1 had 12 maps. Battlefront 2 had 24 maps, with 6 of those being space battles. Battlefront 3 is going to have 8 maps- wait, what the f***? Anybody else see something wrong with that? 4) YA DONE f***ED UP, DICE. If you need more explanation than that, go play the space battles in battlefront 2. I hate being that guy, but this is utter bullshit. We're two consoles ahead of the last entry into the battlefront series and you'd think the considerable upgrades in tech during the gap would have allowed for a bigger, more expansive game, but nope. We're being given less maps, less combat scenarios, less factions, less everything. What do we get in return? Better lighting effects and the ability to put a paint job on my AT-ST? Gaming budgets are at a record high and it amazes me that as time progresses, were being continual served smaller and smaller portions of the same mediocre shit very year. Less is not more, Dice. Oh, and don't give me that shit about how space battles and different planets will be DLC. Any proper game should be flipping tables at the thought of having to pay 60 dollars for 75 % and having to pay extra for the last 25%. I hate how this has become a thing in gaming and it's a goddamn travesty that gaming developers consider it ok to charge gamers extra if they want an entire game. Sorry, Dice. Battlefront holds a special place in the heart of gamers and it deserves a hell of a lot better than what you're going to giving us.

    I.M.P.S.

This is one of the best made fan fiction films I have seen from the star wars series, They are working on more chapters to release soon. I think I like these type of films more than the actual movies.
  6. StarWars.com has confirmed that the upcoming new “Star Wars” trilogy won’t be the only new films on the way for that universe: The Star Wars cinematic galaxy is about to experience a Big Bang. Lucasfilm is officially announcing new spinoff films that will expand the mythos and depths of the Star Wars universe in previously unexplored ways. One of the standalone films will be written by Lawrence Kasdan, screenwriter of The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and co-writer of Return of the Jedi while the other will be penned by Simon Kinberg, writer of Sherlock Holmes and Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The movies will be separate from the upcoming Episodes VII, VIII, and IX, on which Kasdan and Kinberg are also consulting, and are expected to be released sometime after Episode VII. Each standalone film will focus on a specific character, and two spinoff films are currently confirmed. In a call to investors, Bob Iger, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, revealed while the original focus was on the highly-anticipated sequel trilogy, the idea of spinoff films was bandied about early and the additional films are now becoming a reality. “We are in development of a few standalone films,” he said, “that are not part of the Star Wars saga…there are now creative entities working on developing scripts for what would be those standalone films.” Entertainment Weekly has learned that two strong possibilities for these spinoff films will be following the adventures of Boba Fett and a young Han Solo, though they note that these ideas could change as the stories are “very early in the process.” Neither Disney nor Lucasfilm are commenting further.
