Maybe that poor little thing was too exhausted from its injuries, that it didnt have any strength to do anything

Or is a stray cat and says to itself that "Bah! I have experienced much worse in my life. Kids have tortured me. I can endure this". Or worse and says "Finally an end is being put to this wretched misery of my life. I care no more about puny humans wanting to torture me some more. It will not last long this time, its soon all over." While the cat hears the echo in his ears "Hah! Nice throw man. Now that bastard got what it deserved!" 

I hope it wasnt any more than an accident, otherwise its very sad...
