Ol Smoke Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 I can't play very well anymore and there are some guys like me who can't play very good either. So how about giving us a REAL beginners server to play on? Quote
Guardian Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 A real beginners server would be very hard to keep solely for beginners for a couple of reasons: If people enjoy playing on a server they tend to stick around, so over time their skill will be increasing (probably) and you'll end up with more and more skilled players on the server. Other people who know that the server is stacked with noobs, will join it solely to get a high score and a lot of kills, just because it's easier then going up against more skilled players. For a beginner server to be populated with real beginners would be very hard because there isn't a big influx of new players into this game as it's already 10 years old (now i really feel old). To add to this, you'd either need another server to be a dedicated beginners server, or move the higher skilled portion of the active playerbase on beginners to another server. 2 Quote
Ol Smoke Posted May 3, 2017 Author Posted May 3, 2017 You can set the standards for the server game in admin setup. All you have to do is remove the following: Helo Air Strike Tubes RPGS Multiple nades Then set game setup to the following: Make the game Old School Limit weapons to M4 (No Perks) Set UAV blocker to ON or Turn off UAV mapping That is a beginners server setup. It's easy. You can set a score limit also. Quote
Guardian Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Sure, the setup might be easy, but in order to keep it populated you would need a lot of time for the other admins to camp that new server. And because we don't have a lot of admins who are willing to spend their time on an empty server, just sitting in spec and waiting for people to join, chances are very slim that it would work. For example, look at the Killstreaks server, a lot of time went into setting that up trying to keep it running, but it's dead now too. The same would most likely happen to a beginners server. Also if you're gonna limit weapon choices like that, skill levels will be much more noticeable as perk advantages or disadvantages are now gone. It's kinda the same thing as with pro-mod. To add to this, the m4 isn't even available for people at level one, so everyone would just go and walkaround with the burstfire m16a4 or an mp5. After a while they most likely want to try other stuff, which they cannot acces on the server because it's restricted. And, the things i said above still apply here, so you're catering towards a very small and variable portion of the playerbase, giving them a server with an (extremely) high chance of failure. I like the idea, but i just don't think it would ever work out. 2 Quote
Ol Smoke Posted May 4, 2017 Author Posted May 4, 2017 You gotta stop with them negative waves. They told the Wright brothers it would never fly and trying it wouldn't work. In 1954 Warren Coldwell said this, "You can't invest in real property, as a banking program" (Coldwell-Banker) Quote
Guardian Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 I'm not being purposely negative here, i'm just pointing out why it wouldn't work. Quote
