#2, looks odd, but is true.  It shows the problems of mapping a 3-D "ball" world to a 2-D surface.

You made me "look it up".  Mercator designed his projection it in 1569 to aid in ocean navigation by making the latitude and longitude lines at constant angles to the meridian.

 

Here is a Winkel Triple Projection, but it seems to have a problem with Antarctica.  At least Greenland does not look bigger than South America this way.

This one is not bad indeed

 

There's also Lambert projection, continents look weird but surfaces are - afaik - more or less preserved making it a pretty reliable planisphere
