Mercator designed his projection it in 1569 to aid in ocean navigation by making the latitude and longitude lines at constant angles to the meridian. Here is a Winkel Triple Projection, but it seems to have a problem with Antarctica. At least Greenland does not look bigger than South America this way. 1 Quote
